Spielberg promised he wouldn't die when he was going to direct.... He's not directing anymore, but he's still very involved, so I doubt it.

I'm just expecting a fun popcorn movie, which is what all four movies have delivered on so far. And the fact Spielberg is being described as a "very hands-on producer" makes me rest easy more than I might otherwise.

The former would explain a lot, because I fail to see how Harrison Ford can keep being the lead at the age he is.

Yep, keep your expectations in check. It will also increase the odds of being pleasantly surprised by the finished film.

Killing Indy would be monumentally stupid. Word would get before the movie is even released and a whole lotta people aint gonna want to go see a fun popcorn movie where Indy dies in the end. No passing of the torch bullshit either. If they want to keep making Indy films after, just wait a few years then reboot starting with a young Indy in the 1920's, or maybe be a touch more original and go back further show us the adventures of his father when he was in his younger years.

Chris Pratt is roughly the same age now that Harrison Ford was when Raiders was shot. So, if they hypothetically cast someone at Pratts age as Indiana Jones, that means the storyline would have to take place in the late 30s, an era which is already more than covered with the three classic Ford films. I don't see Lucasfilm 'intrude' on 'Fords territory', especially not when they don't have to. They will need someone younger, someone in their mid 20s and then they could allocate the storyline of a potential full trilogy to the 1920s. |

Well, for what it's worth, he was fine in Solo. He found a way to channel his inner 'charming scoundrel', without his performance becoming an imitation or impersonation of Ford's performance.
But it's tough to re-cast such iconic characters; I can't do it, because I grew up with the classic films. Just as I can't imagine anyone else playing Harry Potter than Daniel Radcliffe. I'm glad it's not my job to find Ford's 'replacement'. |

I can’t see Lucasfilm recasting Indy aged 37 onwards as that’s Fords Indy. They will continue the franchise in another way that doesn’t involve recasting. Rebooting Young Indy is an option though. |
