Got to figure out all the biases before they can be confirmed.

I see that.Mangold has bitten back at some of the trolls. The pearl-clutching in the Indiana Jones Facebook group is a thing to behold. Absolute scenes.

Welcome to. the world of upside-down Lucasfilm fandom, James.

It's like, if the movie probably won't pat us on our heads and rub our bellies like we want it to, then the filmmakers better do it for us on social media.

Maybe it’s the fault of the studios for doing so many remakes/sequels, but I feel like nostalgia has gone to insane levels ever since. It is going to be near impossible to get everyone to re-experience Indiana or (fill in the blank) to the same extend of satisfaction because a large part of nostalgia is based on a time period when we were either kids or young adults with very few cares in the world. The originals were well made too of course, or otherwise they wouldn’t be classics, but are they going to recapture the magic? That is much less likely and maybe they shouldn’t.

The Star Wars ST is quite a good example. They relied way too much on nostalgia and the trilogy suffered for it.To say the ST is worse than the PT boggles the mind, IMO. Your expectations may have been crushed, but that is not the same thing as making a bad film. Large parts of thr PT are just portly done, but considering how disappointed people were with PT Anakin/Vader, I kind of think people have forgotten how much their own expectations were “crushed” back then in exchange for the freshness of the ST “travesty.”

Being a Batman fan for all my life has taught me one thing.

I have the films I enjoy and the films that I cannot stand (even within the same "universe"). I'm excited for Keaton coming back, but I am not so enthusiastic given the streak of DC films. If it sucks it sucks, I still got Keaton films I enjoy.

Same with Indiana Jones (another stable of my childhood). Never seen Crystal Skull, nor care to. I don't need to complete the story. I just watch the films I like.

Star Wars too for that matter, only seen 1-6 but I was never much into Star Wars.

However, internet cynicism is getting really annoying and much of it (while there is legitimacy) is just digital-age tabloids.

I'll never be able to understand people not wanting to make their own mind up about something. Then again I'm not required to understand it lol.

Just curious, why are you on an Indy 5 forum if you haven’t even seen Indy 4?

Indy 4 has a 78% approval rating, it’s nowhere near as hated as people make it seem. I watched all 4 last year and introduced a buddy to them for the first time and it was his favorite of them all. Those people do exist, even people like this:

Social media echo chambers amplify the hate, but don't reflect the volume of it in terms of the big picture of audience reaction. KOTCS made $800 million or so (back when that was still a big deal - in the Spring of 2008 there had still only ever been two or three billion dollar grossing movies), and its multipliers and Cinemascore were at worst solid. Any argument about the movie's quality in relation to its forebesrs is subjective and you're welcome to it. Any argument that the movie didn't precisely achieve the objective that Steven Spielberg and George Lucas set out for it is bitterness and fanboyism over quanitfiable analytics of audience response.

Neither are the Star Wars prequels. The generation who grew up with them as kids, seem to have a favorable opinion on them today. They just weren't as vocal twenty years ago as the existing fanbase was, because they were kids.

Crystal Skull is entertaining to watch. But the family dynamic that Lucas and Spielberg establishes between Indy, Marion and Mutt, just isn't quite as compelling as the family dynamic between Indy and Henry Jones Senior in Last Crusade. I miss a scene such as the talk that Indy has with his dad on the zeppeliner, which plays as a quite poignant moment for both characters.

Intrtested to see how the production goes/what the story will be. Im not so much in the Indy4 hate, the trailers not never clicked with me. Still like the franchise tho.

So, The Raven forums st TheRaider.net are just....gone?

I Goog'd some old Reddit posts that it was down for an extended period for upgrades, but that's a couple of years ago and counting, at this point.

Then no, it's not the same your Batman fandom. You can't say that you're any kind of actual Indy "fan for life" if you've never seen Indy 4. Please hand over your Indy fan-card now.

Also, there a lot of us that like Indy 4 (regardless of the repeated feces-flinging some here like to do). We wonder how you expect any kind of respect on an Indy board, when you say that it's not one of the films "you like" even though you haven't seen it (and don't intend to), then say things like this:

However, internet cynicism is getting really annoying and much of it (while there is legitimacy) is just digital-age tabloids.
You've already bowed your back to loudly-broadcast criticism of Indy 4, so consider yourself an internet-tabloid subordinate.

Chris

PS: After watching Temple last night (my least favorite of the 4, with a screenplay full of holes), I will say that anybody that watches all 4 films objectively (without having made up their minds already based on someone else's knuckle-pounding), will find Indy 4 to be not far behind Indy 3, and far superior to Indy 2.

Ridiculous. It's amusing you refuse to afford the same luxury to ToD that you do to KotCS.

Don't like Skull... You've succumbed to knuckle pounding internet vitriol.

If you like Temple, well you just already have your mind made up and aren't watching objectively.

Please.
