This right here is a prime example of how the media fuels the entire toxic atmosphere that just about every franchise ends up being thrown into like yesterday's rubbish. I'd wager the plans were more along the lines of launching a spin off surrounding Phoebe's character that could run after Indy has given up the hat, because it's obvious that Harrison Ford doesn't have another one in him so the franchise has to die. If the new Indy comes out and Phoebe's character actually is fun then I would welcome an attempt to launch a spin off, and it would in no way be "replacing" Indiana Jones any more than The Scorpion King replaced The Mummy. But nope, the media have to go full "girl power, woohoo!" or "evil Hollywood liberals turning Indy female" mode and rile the fans up until the bickering commences. Just announce the news like proper ****ing journalists with a sense of impartiality, intelligence, and consideration for the reality of the situation FFS. You know, like many news outlets used to operate (admittedly a while back now, before the internets ruined everything).

This is why I stay away from news sites these days. Just not worth the time it takes to read the articles.

The idea that a “Lucasfilm insider” is leaking any plans to someone at the daily mail is like suggesting that the Pope had got a sneak preview of Slipknot’s new album.

Daily Mail’s Lucasfilm insider will be a YouTube video where some nincompoop talks about a “rumour” they read on a Dr Who Message Board.

The mainstream media stokes it but it’s fan media that starts it.

I predicted this months ago on the Raider forums. Spielberg said in a print interview he thought a female replacing Indiana Jones was a good idea a couple years ago. Lucasfilm put out a giant press release to announce Phoebe and John Williams were working on the new movie earlier this year. They didn't put out a press release to announce any other cast members. Phoebe has clearly signed a big contract that demanded that kind of press release be put out. Kathleen Kennedy put a female lead in Star Wars, and James Mangold killed off Logan to set the stage for X-23 to take over.

Phoebe is also a big feminist who is an absolute darling of the Hollywood left. Studios are courting her and looking to sign her up to something big. She wouldn't have needed to do this deal unless it was a major career boost for her.

Phoebe WILL be taking over this franchise as the lead. I don't know if it'll be officially in this movie, or finalized in a spin-off, but it's definitely happening. Anyone who can't read the tea leaves on that should get out of the prediction game.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had the inside scoop on the next Ghost album

Since y'all are laying odds, what are the chances that Indy 5 will make Mutt not seem so bad?

Also, Phoebe WB is fairly long in the tooth. If the idea is to use Indy 5 as a "backdoor pilot" to launch a spinoff then why not pick someone who could be in it for the long haul? With decade(s) between installments in franchises becoming a bit of a trend...
