Pretty sure any legacy would have gone with Elsa Schneider into that crevice and the great beyond at the conclusion of Last Crusade, which is unfortunate as I quite liked Miss Schneider, her pangs of conscience seemed to indicate redemption (despite her questionable taste in German political movements).

Yes, because a 75 yr old HF (this July) is the perfect choice to continue the series ; Unless, they kill him off
[Show spoiler](UNLIKELY !! )
, or find a way to phase in Chris Pratt early/midway thru the film to continue the series.

Maybe he'll be a long-lost son who somehow Indy never knew about, or a nephew

But he won't be. 2019 is avengers 4. He's still signed up for Guardians 3, and one film past that. (The 6 film contract)

They could always just introduce a younger actor within a framing device of the film as Indy during WWII, or pre-Temple of Doom...You know, like Last Crusade did. The series has done it once. Don't see why you don't try the angle again, and let that actor take the role after.

Chris Pratt is perfect then. Almost what, 35-40 years younger or so?

(he's 37)

I kinda just want this to be all Ford and all in one timeline. Then they can reboot and recast later. Don't wanna shortchange Ford's screentime in his last movie.

that's why I noted they could maybe have him (Chris Pratt) come in midway thru the film and work together with Harrison, who then retires at the end (of the movie).

Add Indiana Jones to the list of "collections I have bought recently that will eventually have new additions to the franchise". haha. No biggie, great movies!

They could just have Chris Pratt play Mutt all grown up. I know he doesn't look anything like Shia, but I seriously doubt anyone would have a problem with that, and honestly I think Chris looks more like the son of Indy than Shia does anyway.

I've always thought he brought a good bit of comedy to the role, but yes, please don't use him as 'The Jar-Jar'.

Haha! I thought the same thing as well when they first announced a fifth film. That and the soundtrack box set they released in 2008. Unless they do a new one, I'll have the first four in a single set and the fifth score next to it, which will irk me.

I forgot about that, unless there were weird nazi experiments involved

I felt like Spielberg already did that to Sallah, not to mention Marcus Brody, in Last Crusade. Spielberg balanced humor and action much better in Raiders and Temple of Doom. In both Last Crusade and Kingdom of The Crystal Skull he let the humor dominate, to the detriment of both films, IMO.

Much as I'd like to, this is why I can't get too excited for yet another entry, and I can already feel those old-age jokes coming at Ford's expense...

I don't think Ford and Spielberg have any interest in something like that.

Ford wants to play Indy and Spielberg has said that Ford is the one and only Indy and that it's never going to be like Bond.

So then Pratt plays an entirely different character? Meh. I wouldn't mind him being the new Indy but just save that til the reboot. Let Ford go out with one full movie. This isn't like Star Wars where he's part of a larger cast that are all handing things off to the kids, so he can shoulder the whole thing one last time.

Eventually, Lucas, Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Ford are gonna die. The intellectual property won't.

We'll see some other actor playing Indy. It just won't be anytime soon.

We've already seen other actors play Indy...sorry, but the character, no matter how much I love it, is bigger than the actor. Someone else will be Indy sooner than we think.

I hope this will be just another straight out Indy adventure, no baton passing. Knowing Ford, he probably demand for the character's death at the end. It'll be a closure to Ford/Spielberg/Lucas era. Then just do a reboot just like they do with James Bond with somebody else directing, in fact a whole new team.

Too late...he was already turned into a bungling fool in Last Crusade.

Spielberg has said before he will not kill Indiana Jones, and Frank Marshall has said there will be no recasting. My guess is after Indy 5 the series (barring ancillary stuff like books and comics, of course) will rest and then maybe eventually be rebooted many years from now. While others have played Indy, Ford is clearly the most identified with the role over 30+ years, so there's no way they will just casually reboot with a new actor a few or even several years later.
