All he has to do is give his hat to a kid in the end of the movie. It doesn't have to be his kid. He didn't get the hat from his dad. Whenever they decide to make more, we start off with the adventures of that kid.

Eh. Then it starts to get modern. And the charm of Indy is the historical conflicts that surround indys quests.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that this will never happen. Look at how long it took them to come up with Kotcs...and how old everyone will be when this one is finally made? Hell, Ford could be dead before it's made...or this could kill him.

That is what makes me think they will recast and fill in the blanks between his existing adventures with more adventuring.

While others have played Indy, Ford is clearly the most identified with the role over 30+ years, so there's no way they will just casually reboot with a new actor a few or even several years later.
Marshall said that specifically for Indiana Jones 5 only. I agree with what you said about Indy and Ford though, for me it won't be Indy without him. Not just the looks, but the manners, the way he stands, the expressions. But to be realistic Disney won't be keeping the character quiet for too long, they didn't get the IP for free. There won't be any satisfying Indy recast for me of course, but we have to move on and accept there'll be a new Indy for the future generations. While we hold Ford's Pentalogy as the definitive Indiana Jones.

Interesting, thanks. This can be a case of Expendables with the aging stars, and similar to how Sean Connery fended for himself in The Last Crusade. In this case, Indy still swinging from his whip in Indy 5. Hopefully his son doesn't appear in this one as with Crystal Skull's Shia LeBeouff.

No way Ford-Indy dies.

They're not gonna kill him off on-screen. He'll just ride off into the sunset again, then we'll get a reboot with a younger actor.

I wouldn't mind a series of films about a younger Indy's adventures in the 1920s. Would fill in the gap between Young Indiana Jones, which only went up to 1920, and the previous films. Would even give them the opportunity to include a young Marion and Abner Ravenwood, and even show the initial friendship/rivalry with Belloq, which I believe they had planned for YIJ but never got the chance to do.

Although I love the character and the movies just let it rest in peace after this movie. If they want to resurrect the franchise they can refresh with Indy's son or grandson.....or go radical and have it be his daughter.

Brie Larson could pull that off

According to the original Old Indy bookends in Young Indiana Jones, he actually did have a daughter. But as Lucas has since removed all of those bookends (except for the Harrison Ford one), she's no longer canon.

They shouldn't do another with Ford, he's too old now. If they insist on continuing they should recast. Personally though I think they should have recasted years ago, way before KOTCS.

If you read my first post on this new news (updated release date with the principals back), I said they could have Chris Pratt (hopefully they choose him) come into the film midway and we find out he's his nephew (or long-lost/never known about Son ), and then HE continues the series in a new set of films. Not as Indiana Jones of course, but as his Own character, somehow Related to INDY.

This isn't like Star Wars where he's part of a larger cast that are all handing things off to the kids, so he can shoulder the whole thing one last time.
see my post above (I never said a Different character)

I think my idea is how they will or Should go. Have him be Related to INDY (nephew/son), & continue the Series with him.

I agree. Watching him dodder around the screen, and then see the obvious cuts where his body double takes over, is a painful reminder of what Indy in his prime use to be. Put the poor guy out of his misery instead of prolonging the inevitable for the sake of an admittedly considerable number of fans who take things too seriously.

Ford isn't exactly your average 70-something. The guy keeps in great shape, so I have no doubt he's still got one more go-round as Indy in him.

He looked too old in the last one and that was nine years ago. It was really awkward watching some of those stunts.

It was tough watching him in TFA at times. Even the way in which he moved and talked was a constant reminder of the obvious.

There are ways of having a once-young character return decades later as an old person in the same film series, in a convincing and satisfying manner, but the way they've gone about it with the previous Indy film definitely isn't my idea of doing it the right way.
