Exactly. That college campus chase was terrific. Every other action scene suffered from dodgy visual fx work.

The last Indy movie was really terrible and I'm not excited for another one as much as I love the previous movies. I'm fully prepared to be wrong.

Just don't hand the torch over to Shia Labeouf if this is Harrison's last romp as Indiana Jones. That's all I ask.

I think it's safe to say Shia's Indy boat has sailed away.

I'll be really surprised if LaBeouf is asked to come back after all the shit he said about the last movie and Ford's angry reaction to him.

My one concern with the new one is that despite all of Crystal Skull's issues, it did provide a nice closure for Indy. So I kinda don't want them to screw with that. But I'm still hype as hell for one more Indy movie with Ford.

He also kind of trashed Spielberg last year, but I must say he was bang on the money with his assessment on that particular front. It wasn't so much a trashing but an honest observation.

It's not even necessarily the effects. The cinematography was too saturated and digitally manipulated. It didn't look natural at all. The closest comparison I can think of is Jurassic World. The CGI itself was fine, but the cinematography and color grading made it look bad. Hopefully, Spielberg and Kamiński will make the next one look more natural.

They ruind a lot of the great stunt work done in the film with that weird hazy digital filter over everything. Most people think the duel on the trucks was shot on green screen, but it wasn't. Shia did that stunt, and it was super cool to see them shoot it on the BTS stuff. In the film it's an ugly mess of CGI trees and added bushes.

I hate when movies add bush.

HAs Indy reached rocky status of being to old and ready to hand his whip to the next generation.

I hope that is idea or kill Indy off or maybe both

I don't think he needs to die, but perhaps take on the Marcus role? Have Indy "bookend" a new film, ushering one of his students into the role at the beginning of the film, and then turn up at the end to congratulate him on a job well done, perhaps ending with the classic line, "That belongs in a museum" for the relevant artifact that's being used as the plot device.

Kaminski doesn't do "heavy digital manipulation". The problem is not the photography but the people who don't understand what they are looking at.

It's not digital! The filter is on the lens during shooting. Kaminski loves his diffusion. It's nets (stocking on the lens) and various soft filters.

IIRC Kaminski and/or Spielberg said they were going to intentionally try and recreate Douglas Slocombe's style of photography from the first three. It didn't really work.

They're not going to kill him off (Spielberg has already stated as much) and having another character simply take the lead in future movies would just turn it into pretty much a separate series, because they would no longer be under the Indiana Jones title if Indy is relegated to just a small supporting role. If Disney does decide to "reboot" anytime in the near future, I can only really see them doing it by casting a new younger Indy and making the films prequels to the previous ones. Perhaps if audiences accept a younger recast Han Solo next year and that film is a success (like it won't be), then we may see Disney willing to do some future Young Indy films. I think that would be the best way to go than just a straight up reboot than recasts an adult Indy and essentially "starts over."

Yeah, I wouldn't say it completely worked but the cinematography still felt Indy to me. The only part where I thought the style didn't really work was the scene where Indy is being questioned by the FBI agents in the clean room. That looked more like modern Spielberg than the rest of the film.

SPECULATION TIME - it's heavily rumored amongst Disney fans that the dinosaur -themed land at Disney's Animal Kingdom (Dinoland USA) is going to be rebranded as 'Indiana Jones Land' in 2020, in time for the arrival of Indy 5. Maybe putting two and two together to make five, but could that mean that the Macguffin for Indy 5 is........dinosaurs?. Probably not, it's not like Spielberg hasn't done dinosaurs before, but, nevertheless, an intriguing development.

I have a feeling the only dinosaur in Indy 5 will be Indiana Jones.
