I'm probably one of the only people who prefers Crystal Skull to The Last Crusade.

I think it's the 3rd best. Raiders and Temple being 1 and 2.

I watched it last night. Still as cringeworthy as ever. Mutt is poorly written, Williams score is just plain weird in parts, and I spent the whole movie wishing Mack and Blanchett had been killed off in the first scene. And I love Blanchett.

That is CGI? Never would have guessed.

I don't know if I prefer one over the other. They're pretty equal to me and are a step down from Temple of Doom (my favorite) and Raiders, but still better than 95% of action movies out there.

Any word on what 5 will be about yet? I wrote Disney an idea a few years back and they actually wrote me back. Not that I’d get any credit if they used it. Lol

I think they should have a plan for 5-6 and film them back to back. Finish out the trilogy with Ford and then end it, or reboot. He can finish out the series by finding one of the fabled 7 gates to Hell.

Can't they hire a great screenwriter for once? Surely the budget is big enough to afford one.

Very happy about this news, regardless of Crystal Skull, I trust Koepp with this far more than Jon Kasdan or Fogelman.

Whoa, in the end(?) Spielberg gave in and returns to his "closer". Maybe Koepp has a way of getting Spielberg's idea translated into a screenplay really well.

A great screenwriter usually very good about writing human drama, that is important but trying to do something like Indiana Jones can prove to be difficult for them. They excel in their own genre I guess. Much like actors in the early days of blue screen, they panic and lost their game (even method actors).

Koepp was never the problem. It was George Lucas dictating specific elements or scenes be included in the movie that made Crystal Skull the mess that it was. All the worst stuff was all George: greaser Mutt, nuking the fridge, the aliens/saucers, the monkeys... all stuff George insisted on including. Hopefully since George sold of Lucasfilm he will have no involvement and we'll see what Spielberg and company can cook up without his interference.

Nuking the fridge was actually Spielberg's idea

Where did you learn that? From the book/featurettes the only thing George insisted on is the McGuffin (inter-dimensional beings), apart from the storyline. The rest are from all of them and agreed upon. Spielberg has been on records defending George about this.

It's unbelievable how badly some people want the blame George for anything they didn't like. It's almost like a knee-jerk reaction.

I remain convinced that "David Koepp" is some Alan Smithee-style industry name used to cover a screenplay cobbled together by a half-dozen uncredited script doctors.

From the wild fluctuation in quality, I think of Koep and Steve Zaillian as the Dread Pirate Roberts of screenwriting.
