The irrational refusal to recast the role will be this franchise's downfall.

Yeah, I'm one of those "irrational" fan. Not like they will listen to us anyway. I'm willing to let them cast a new Indy for the new generation. We have our real Indy.

I think it's up to Harrison if they recast.

Obviously Harrison is doing well for himself right now. It’s obvious why you’d want to keep that starpower and it’s fine, as long as they don’t try and make him do stunts someone his age couldn’t do.

I don't think the problem with Shia in the last film were any of his troubles. It was a poorly written character who was basically an idiot. Even though he didn't grow up with Indy, he should have been made an intelligent person (IMO) and I don't think Shia is the right actor to play someone intelligent. Frankly, I wouldn't mind if it's found out in the next film that he wasn't really Indy's kid after all.

Hopefully, this film will have a great script. I felt like everyone, including Spielberg, was just going through the motions in the last one. I like Ford as an actor - he was fine in the recent Star Wars films and he was terrific in the Jackie Robinson movie, but in the last Indy film, I felt like he was doing a Harrison Ford impression. The scene where he's in the quicksand looked like a rehearsal to me.

I hope they don't screw with the timelines. Indy was born July 1, 1899.

Obviously we don't know what the plot is and I don't want to come off as one of those people who decides upon a plot and then is disappointed when (surprise!), the writers of the film do something completely different, but I wouldn't mind a story where Indy is disillusioned with "modern" civilization and seeks one last adventure and goes to the Amazon or somewhere in Africa or a remote part of China before every bit of past history is erased by modernity. I also had an idea once that he should get in some trouble somewhere in Africa, perhaps looking for the Jewels of Opar and meet up with a still living John Clayton (Tarzan), but they obviously would never do that. This film better not have any trans-dimensional beings or aliens.

I would be shocked if I found that most people here had a higher iq than Shia.

A whole movie of head replacement during anything physical would probably end up looking pretty horrible.

Maybe they should Gemini Man it and just go fully CG for Indy. Seriously that is how ridiculous this late in the day project is.

Maybe get Tom Cruise to do the stunts and have Harrison for the close ups?

This franchise is over with Crystal Skull. They have said they aren't going to re-cast Indy, so it's film number 5 and out. If they wanted to, i'm not even sure of a Hollywood actor that could pull off the part, certainly not Chris Pratt for starters! Bradley Cooper is 45, he would be a great choice. Convinced after i saw the amazing American Sniper.

C’mon, his character is a 50’s greaser, Fonzie type. Even if he had a good education, it ain’t cool to be a square, man.

Not sure anyone anyone's "pretending" that the stuff in Irishman is all diabolically awful, it's that for all the hype and hoopla it's still blatantly a load of septuagenarians creaking about with their turkey necks digitally taken in and for me it just doesn't work. If I liked the movie more then I'm sure I could look past it, but I don't so I can't.

And I don't care how much ILM tout their new witness camera system that doesn't require a load of mocap gear on the performers because they got their virtual asses handed to them by what Weta did with Will Smith on Gemini Man: full CG head replacement using the original mo-capped performer as reference and the result is astonishingly good. Not all the way perfect in every shot but it massacres what ILM did on Irishman, especially that quick WWII insert of De Niro which really does look like shite.

Obviously that was for a fairly small role as Junior in a 2hr movie rather than having to de-age three performers across a 3½ hour movie (although they had quintuple-double the workload as they had to animate Junior in 120fps 3D) but even so, that's the way forward for stuff like this and if ILM were to get it to that sort of quality for Indy 5 - I could totally see them doing the opening teaser in a de-aged stylee - then I'm game.

Gemini man either looked incredible or like ass. The last scene looked especially like a fat bag of ass. I will be eternally grateful to that film for making me a fan of HFR however.

Terminator Dark Fate is the current wow factor holder for deaging effects for me.

My father taught Army ROTC at a major university a few years ago and most of the students in his classes hadn't seen The Godfather films, Indiana Jones, Jaws or Star Wars. They are out there.
