Custom Cover Art Thread

Hey everyone, a while back I had a request via pm to create a custom cover for 'Barry Lyndon' using different artwork. Here is what I came up with using some of the alternate poster artwork:

Random question...

Does anyone know if there is a way to get Blu-Ray cases along the lines of the Criterion style ones, but in black instead of clear?

I ask because I have some custom cover ideas that I'd like to pursue, but they are with that sort of case in mind, if it even exists.

I made the front art of both to match the old Star Wars dvd's released years ago. I think they turned out quite well.

Just a couple of friendly suggestions (feel free to take them or leave them)...

The font that you used for the title "The Force Awakens" doesn't quite match the font of the earlier films. IMO you should get that to match more closely.

Also, being that it is one of the main "Episodes" and not a side film akin to Rogue One, it should have the Episode number in roman numerals behind the titling on the front and towards the bottom of the spine, like the earlier releases.

An alternative to that, if you don't want to have to worry about making episode numbers for future releases if you plan to make matching covers for future films, would be to try and remove the episode numbers from I-VI.




Regarding "Rogue One," I see what you are going for with it having Rogue One in the big text as opposed to Star Wars, since marketing wise it was "ROGUE ONE" with 'A Star Wars Story' essentially being almost a subtitle or something akin to that.

That being said, if you still want to go that route, I think it would be better if, font-wise, you tried to match the look of "STAR WARS" from the other covers, and have the variation in color as well (at least the latter if not the former).


Alternatively, or possibly as just a second option, maybe consider keeping the large "Star Wars" titling, and just put "Rogue One" underneath it in smaller text like the titles of the other movies. Obviously in this instance there is no need for an Episode number since it doesn't have one.

And actually, if you go this route, and also go with dropping the episode numbers from the earlier films and not bothering to add them to The Force Awakens or any future movies, by titling the "side" movies in this manner as well, it will make more consistency in the overall look of the movies, especially when lined up on the shelf, and allows the side movies to be placed among the rest in chronologic order (i.e. Rogue One in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope), and not have them stick out by lacking an episode number and/or having the title styled differently.


Again, just some friendly suggestions. If you want to keep your covers as-is, that is perfectly fine.

Luckily, not too many projects go unrealised, but there are a few cases where clients have abandoned projects halfway, and I finish them because I thought the work was coming out great.

Off the top of my head there is at least one Batman collection (Nolan), a cover for The Last Starfighter and maybe a Conan (Milius) which I intend to see to fruition. It's good to have a hobby, ha ha.

You can be sure the covers will be shown in this thread if I finish them.

Looking to get a 14mm custom cover of David Gilmour's Live In Gdansk album (5 disc NTSC version). I got the discs individually on eBay, and am gonna put them in a 14mm 5 disc case.

There was another forum dedicated to movie covers that I joined and requested this, but they wanted me to join their "club" for $15 just to access the full-res version of the cover they made.

I just can't see paying for something that I see myself only using once or twice.

So if someone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.

For the folks with access I have uploaded the TV covers for Agent Carter The Complete Series, Daredevil Season 1 + Season 2 and Jessica Jones Season 1. Now the Marvel series is completely up to date on the TV side (and Nissen will begin work on Guardians Vol. 2 in a few weeks to get the MCU caught back up) and next I will have work started on the 3 remaining Netflix shows and SHIELD season 4 to have them done already. I plan on trying to keep the TV side done ahead of schedule since I don't have any special features listed (and the TV shows usually don't include any anyways) I can have the guy get these done as soon as 3 useable images become available for the show/season
