rules on this site say that any news needs to be accompanied by a link also, so if you heard it from another site, then you need to post it here.
It happened years ago. around 2001 if I remember correctly. Dvdcoverart.com got shut down by Disney I think and the owner sued. That lawsuit lasted for a few years and basically bankrupted the guy. It's a slippery slope, lawyers can intrepid that this site is profiting from these covers from traffic and ad revenue. What we do is illegal, it's their artwork and if they want us to stop distributing it they can, just as you don't want somebody else giving your cover designs out on other sites without your permission (but in those cases you have no legal right over it).

Which creator did it? I made one. Don't see your name in my PMs.

bpm,

I love the idea.. For someone like me that would like to learn and start creating covers this would be very helpful to have questions answered, etc.

This is true, we have no actual right over our covers. And I think the biggest issue is whether profits are being made on the covers...

It's just a matter of being careful and knowing that there is no guarantee that we are safe here. This is why I don't accept any donations or payments for my work, like all the designers!

Actually, I can argue against that. Once you've created something, then it's yours depending on whether or not you can prove it i.e. a watermark etc. However, when we're talking about studios logos, credits, and legal, the studio can actually wipe the floor with you if you make a profit off of it and don't have a copyright license agreement with that studio. It's like showing a clip of that copyrighted movie on youtube or any public place without having a copyright license. And no, most anyone that does cover art does not have a license either. I've actually done a lot of research on the matter lately because I've designed something that can't physically be printed without said license.

But someone receives! Because all the sites on which I have seen the work of designers from this topic - are pay. Find and download your work free of charge - almost unreal.

It's only yours if you've created everything from scratch. As soon as you put a studio owned image on there somewhere you no longer have any right to it, especially if you are profiting from it. And that's all basically what it comes down to, who is making money of it. I seriously doubt that this thread generates allot of traffic to this site, it's a niche hobby at best and nobody here is actively charging for their work so I think we're OK.
As for the Youtube analogy, I once tried to upload a video I made on there and there was some program that actually recognized the Ramones song I had in the video and took it out, so the video was silent. Youtube is always battling companies because of copyright issues, must be sweet to be a lawyer for them. But I guess many leave them alone because it's free advertising.

Hey horror, you should post it in the showcase section of the group and add it to the pictures section so people know you've made it.

Hey gang, I've seen all the PM's for covers, but Im adding a "security signature" item to my covers so if I find them elsewhere, I know where they came from. Just a little piece of mind for me. Once thats done, I'll get on to the requested links.

Thanks!!
