I know you do custom covers yourself, so my comment was not aimed at you. . I quoted you simply to explain to you that, in a way. custom artists are paid (in credits)

You do know that you can download those covers to sites and get credit for them which will allow you to download other covers for free don't you?

Ah ok. I understand.

Yes I knew that artists are credited in points everytime they post a cover.
But... I don't know... I guess it's this "exclusive club" thing that bothers me.
If I make covers it's for everyone to use them (me to begin with, of course) and I don't see why I would make them pay.

I saw they also reward people who do scans of actual covers so I guess there's nothing for me to complain.
It's just the way those websites found to stay alive so I respect that, and their rules seem to be fair enough.

But I just think that I will stick to forum boards such as this one to share custom covers, that's all.

By the way DrrnHarr, did you see the review for High Road to China?
What to you think of it?
I don't totally agree with the reviewer's score but, again, I didn't see it on my TV so maybe he's right afterall...

I've never seen an exclusive club that doesn't charge annual or membership fees, though. That's the whole point of it being "exclusive." Heck, even every country club I've been a member of cost money, and there's nothing especially exclusive about those.

Yes I saw the review and I have to say I was not surprised by it at all.

In the 15 years since DVD arrived on the scene Warner has never released the movie on DVD in the U.S.

So, when I saw it was coming on Blu-ray I was highly suspicious. If Warner was going to release it they might have done some work on it. But given the fact they have never seen fit to put it on DVD I knew that they would never spend too much time on it. Then when I saw it was being released by a small independent operation I was even more suspicious.

Still the review did say it was better than DVD, so I'll still purchase it. I doubt we will ever see it released again and Hen's Tooth needs to be encouraged to release other movies ignored by the major studios (e.g. Lassiter) so at least we can get them on BD.

I'll just be happy to see it on a format that means I don't have to hook up a VCR (as in VHS or Betamax Video Cassette Recorder) to watch it.

My latest cover from Nissen......

A vast improvement on the dire US cover which inspired no atmosphere for the film at all.
The blue in this cover really works well in a Blu-ray case, and the typewriter font on the spine stands out brilliantly when amongst my collection.

If that happens, I hope I could get a Dolorean...

Haven't you noticed that even on Blu-ray.com we are getting pop up advertisements?

If you mention something like power conditioner in a post. Power conditioner might have a line under it and when the mouse pointer goes over it, up pops an add. This help keep this forum free.

With all the talk about free/not-free, I hate to do this but:

I found some really cool custom covers for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight on a site that requires payment to gain access to downloads. Is there a chance that anyone here uses the site and could get them to me or knows if these can be found elsewhere?

You can click the links below to check them out. They're on a forum called HiResCovers.

Batman Begins

The Dark Knight

Or you could just pay if you really want them and not be cheap. You really don't "hate" to ask, or else you wouldn't.

Sorry. It appears that people are less willing to help in the Custom Cover Art Thread than they are in other areas of this site. Such a shame.

I just don't see it being worth $17 to download and print two custom covers, so I thought that I would see if they were available elsewhere (like many of the ones on that site are) or if anyone else had access to them.

As for "being cheap," I'm a college student, so it's my right to be cheap. Like I said, I was just checking to see if someone else was putting them up for free. It seems that HiResCovers has taken quite a few custom covers available for free elsewhere (including ones from EuphoricFX) and charged a membership fee if you want them.

Do you go to the gas station and ask for free gas? Or to the restaurant and ask for free food? Such a shame people think somethings ought to be free while other things aren't. If you want something, you pay for it... if not, then you don't want it that badly.

No, I don't, but thanks for the economics lesson anyways. Just be careful how you apply the, "If you want something, you pay for it..." idea; that's how Elliot Spitzer got in trouble.

Back on topic, I never said anything "ought to be free." It was simply a question, no need for you to get all up in arms over a question from someone looking to do a couple of custom covers on some blus.

Many people allow their artwork to be used for free, so I was asking to see if it was available for free somewhere and if HiResCovers was just capitalizing on the artwork and putting it on their site to make money off of.
