Now, Scanning is a science unto its own, and I don't think is the place for a full tutorial but I have a few general tips. The results you've encountered are very common when scanning a printed image. The rasterizing is quite pronounced, but it can be lessened.
My Photoshop "pro tip" is to make a second layer of your scan, rescale that to 50% of its size and then blow it up 200% again. This resamples all the pixels and smoothes out the rasters. (Add a smidge of noise to match the characteristics of the original image again). Then you mask the entire layer so that your original scan shows through. Go in with the airbrush and erase the mask wherever the rasters are too bad, making the resampled layer visible at those areas. This way you can essentially "paint out" the problem areas while keeping text and edges crisp. That is, if you're using Photoshop :-) I really should write a full tutorial on scanning someday. |

Well, Photoshop would be the application to do that with, but you did notice I said these covers can't be shared?

This was meant for any cover I'd rather go for space saving on. I could scan them and use the Photoshop tool to level them out. Just squish the spine from 12mm to 6mm for the slim Viva Elite cases. More for the titles which I don't care about having the OST CD with or a special features DVD.

Thank you so much for the tips, they're very much appreciated. I played around a bit with a 600dpi scan, below are the before and after results.

A question:
The Wikipedia page for the 1965 movie "The Battle of the Bulge" says that the back cover of the blu-ray gets the aspect ratio incorrect. "A Blu-ray release followed in 2007, though the aspect ratio says it is 2:35:1 on the back of the cover, the actual aspect ratio of the film is the original 2:76:1 like the previous DVD release." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bulge_(film) Can anyone confirm what the aspect ratio is? Given how easy it is to mislead on wikipedia I take everything I read there with a grain of salt. Thank you in advance. A WIP: ![]() Last edited by DrrnHarr; 02-17-2013 at 01:29 PM. |

![]() [Show spoiler] That's some nice stuff! Think you would be able to do two variants -- one with the theatrical version specs and 12mm spine and one with extended edition with the title, the extended edition specs, and 15mm spine? Again, really nice work! Last edited by JM Jacen Kelsai; 02-19-2013 at 05:01 AM. Reason: Added spoiler tag. |
