And if anybody is interested... I have been playing around with the idea of doing some inside artwork as well. Here's a look at how Winnie the Pooh turned out... If anybody is interested, I may try to do this for the whole collection, I know it's a lot of ink, but it's nice to open the case to some more art!

So still waiting on the final specifications for the Man of Steel BD so those covers are on hold. Playing around with some Star Trek designs, how do you guys like this?

Love the inside art idea!! With my luck I would put the paper in wrong and it would wind up being upside down

I love it and all of your covers!
But is there any way we can get one that matches with the first one?

I'm all for more awesome art. But if it's too much of a hassle, I'm okay without it.

#37 of 53. Aladdin.
I'm personally not going to be using this version of Aladdin... I will be making another one in the future, but I thought I'd put this one up as well in case anyone would like it.

Decided to make some custom cover art for The Wicker Man since it was the only bluray I owned that did not have cover art. This was my first attempt at using Photoshop so there were some hiccups along the way, including my printer running out of black ink which made the front cover turn out slightly faded in areas . Anyways here is how it turned out.

I have a very important question that's related to covers...

Do you guys have any practical ways of fixing slipcovers that are too loose? I have some blu-ray cases that drop right out of their slipcovers the second I pick them up, and it just hurts me. Any solutions?

You could print off and glue in a top (so that the slip turned into a VHS styled box) The two tabs necessary to glue it in would tighten it up a bit and the new top would prevent the case from falling out in at least one direction.

Slightly off-topic:
I have been asked to put together some labels for a friends family vacation movies that they have transferred to DVD. While having made labels for fun before I have no idea how to print them or apply them to the disc itself.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Darren,

Both Avery and Neato have web based services to help create labels using their products. I've used both and personally prefer Neato as they have a glossy laser label that looks better than pretty much anything that has been silkscreened from the factory. For burned discs, any of the label products will be fine. Anyone with your mad skills will be able to follow the steps on the web sites easily.

The sticker slightly off-balances the dvd and it causes the laser reading it to miss the track.

If you're going to print DVD labels, use printable dvds in a special printer. I just bought a canon pixma that does it, and my old HP did it.

I can't stress enough how bad an idea DVD sticker labels are.
Adding to this, Printed labels can cause dvd's to get stuck inside slot loading drives (Like a PS3). It's not common, but it creates enough extra friction that it won't always slide out all the way like it should. I've never had a disk get stuck so far in that I couldn't pull it out, but it has caused noticeable changes in the way it goes in an out. Even worse then that however, is that the glue/adhesive will actually eat away at the data on the disk over a long enough time. I've used labels extensively in the past on cd's and all other things considered after about 7-10 years, many of the cd's became unplayable. (Around 30% or so I'd wager). Most of these were cd's that were burned and then put away and not used much at all, so scratches and heat were not a factor.

I myself upgraded my printer last Christmas just for this very reason as well, as while I don't print as often as I once did, I do still burn things occasionally and now use printable media instead of labels.

Nice work, and congrats on your first cover! I recently created my first (and probably last) custom for the Three Cornetto's Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End), and it took me way longer than expected. One thing I noticed about your spine is that the blu-ray graphic is upside down when you consider the orientation of the title. I made the same mistake with mine and had to fix it.

Looks FANTASTIC. Thanks for sharing. Are you going to post the final version when you're finished?

Thanks! It took me quite a while to get down the basics of photoshop, but I had a blast doing it. I might do another one to replace some hideous factory cover art once I have improved my photoshop skills . It's insane how talented some of the designers are in this thread, everyones custom covers look awesome. I took a look at my spine after you pointed that out and your right! I need to find the file so I can fix it and print out a new one.

I'm not doubting your experience with printed labels, and frankly, I never used these on DVDs when I was using that format. I will say that in my experience with Blu-ray discs, I have used custom art on stick-on labels on a fair number of discs without a single failure or rendered any of them unplayable.

YMMV.
