Default New players soon at Best Buy

Best Buy has received sku's for two new bluray players. First the Samsung BDP1500, priced at $399.99 and a model made by Funai branded with the Best Buy Insignia label priced at $349. Holidays will give us an interesting price range of bluray players this year.

I'm aware that not everyone is a videogamer but why would people choose a standalone blu-ray player than a PS3 which loads faster and is future proof?

Apparently, there's some kind of stigma with owning a PS3 if you're not a gamer.

I have no clue, they are schedule for release middle of May, so sometime soon, probably early May on the website.

Because people considered with getting the "best" audio performance, such as myself, would rather have a player that can bitstream DTSMA and Dolby TrueHD, because my player has a better audio decoder than the PS3. Although video is amazing on the ps3, I think there are a few select models that are still better such as the Denon and Pioneer Elite units. In the $500 range I would probably go with the ps3 as well, which I have done, but for ultimate performance I would go with a more premiere unit.

im not too hip on ps3 and its capabilities as some/most people on here are. but there a few minor drawbacks that i believe the ps3 to have that some stand alones dont.

such as....

5.1/7.1 analog outs? i know ps3 can send the pcm tracks or whatever over hdmi, but what about people with 7.1 ins on their older receiver without hdmi?

Also, isnt it still currently unable to bitstream the lossless codecs? i realize thats probably not as big of a deal because it'll decode them internally so you can still hear the lossless track, but still. i really enjoy seeing DTS HD MA light up on my new denon

just a few things that come to mind, but, take into consideration i dont have a ps3 and dont know 100% if these facts are still or ever were, correct

so take it easy on me if i am wrong

still, all very minor defects with the ps3, but still. some may find them more pressing than most?

Great news! More competition in the player sector will lead to better products and lower prices for the consumers! Nice to see Best Buy coming out with a Blu-ray player.

Have you felt the enormous heat emitting from them ?
You could toast bread on the heat vent ports.

How about the lobster claw type disc grabbing mechanism ?
I do not need a players sticky/dirty claws/rollers touching my discs.

You also can't put it in an enclosed AV rack like a SAL player or it will heat up and die and possibley heat up other AV equipment.

Can't stack other AV component on top of it due to it's shape.

Can't bitstream lossless audio. Yes, we know it supports LPCM but does it via software emmulation, which most likely takes up more CPU power thus emitting even more heat.

I'll stick to my BD30 which loads pretty fast and supports all my needs.

I love my BD30. It bitstreams and does load pretty quickly for a standalone. I HATE slot loading devices. If the PS3 had a disc tray, I would buy 5 of them.

Lol I'm a gamer and I just don't see the ps3 as a good console right now.

I've got a Wii and a 360 and those take care of my gaming addiction perfectly...

So I'd rather get a standalone because it will be FULLY dedicated to playing Blurays and hopefully it will be better at it than the ps3...

People talk bad about the Wii but it's really moving! Just when you think its over - here comes another fun game - Mario Kart racing is going to be a blast with the wheel controller! Oh and for all the ps3 people I'm sorry about my previous post - I just realized that I'm in the no PEA SEE zone. Please accept my apologies. To get back on topic I'm waiting this summer for a nice stand-alone myself. I think this summer plans to be big for stand alone players.
