Although the SEI message contribution to the HEVC to support metadata of the Samsung approach was withdrawn based upon the understanding that it might not be within the scope planned for current JCT-VC work, the Samsung dynamic metadata solution remains on track at SMPTE….https://kws.smpte.org/kws/public/pro...project_id=379

The question remains if catalog titles that would look great with all the other benefits of UHD Blu-ray, but not HDR will still ever be considered for UHD Blu-ray release.

Maybe when I have more time I’ll post more about the challenges of banding and how the encoder can possibly help.

The ironic thing re: banding is that one of the best UHDs I've yet seen for no banding has come from Lionsgate (Sicario), whereas it's usually their Blu-rays that are absolutely plagued by it (true to form, there's plenty of it in the Sicario Blu-ray).

David Wood who is chairman of the DVB work group talked a bit about the HDR plans for DVB Phase 2.

It is good to see the patent declaration from Samsung that it will be free of charge.

Fireworks and HDR sounds like a good combination.

From where I was standing seems many at CES 2016 enjoyed the HDR snippets of The Godfather in the Technicolor suite (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post11886241 ) which I personally don’t have a problem with as long as Francis supervised the grade and the SDR version is always available on home media.

It does ….and that fact has not escaped content creators and display manufacturers. Wait for a quick pic.

See Blu-Dog, are you reading ^, the wait for Phase 2 (HDR and HFR content) might not be as long as you might have thought.

btw, testing for the quality of experience and workflow has already happened ….

and continues with other professional labs on projects.
