Not to my knowledge, but screencaps of the new Ghostbusters discs were posted in this thread (or one of the threads about this, anyway) earlier.

I didn't think it was possible to get into a heated debate, with people viciously taking sides, over something like this. Apparently I still have a lot to learn about the Internet.

As for me, I'm annoyed that Sony isn't releasing these movies with 4K transfers the first time around. Now they have garish packaging and zero special features. Perhaps the third time's the charm?

Because Sony can and will do it again and again, with the generation after Blu-ray and so on.

You should have seen the Jurassic Park thread. It got reeeeallly out of control to the point people didn't talk about the movie any more.

Speaking of which, Universal could make up for not releasing a proper remaster of that movie through this "Mastered in 4K" line. I could almost care less for what a Mastered in 4K Blu-Ray does as long as it means getting the better version of the movie, like Ghostbusters seems to be benefiting from.

I just bought the 3D combo version of Jurassic Park so selfishly, I hope they don't release a new master of that movie for at least, I dunno, a year.

Does anyone know if Taxi Driver will have the same transfer?

Sony has always been one of the better studios when it comes to putting good quality transfers on blu-ray. But this stuff costs time, money, labor, etc. Consider that digital film mastering only became ubiquitous at about the same time blu-ray hit. The technology has evolved, becoming faster and cheaper, since then, and every studio's quality of output has improved over the years. Sony's Colorworks DI facility, which is equipped with several 4K scanners, was only launched sometime in 2010 I think, well into the format's lifespan, and having that capability in-house put them in a much better position to remaster their back catalog at this level of quality.

No Lawrence of Arabia?
One of best, if not the best, the format has to offer.

I'm sure that it looks amazing, but I'm one of those who feel that David Lean got really long-winded after his move to Hollywood. His early movies, the ones that were shorter than 2 hours, are much more concise and digestible in terms of repeat viewings.

I'm with you. Lawrence of Arabia is ridiculously long, and there are plenty of long movies I love. I've been meaning to at least rent it on Blu-ray so I can see the great picture quality but there are about 2-3 movies I'd always rather watch that have, combined, approximately the same running time. One viewing on a small cathode TV years ago is more than enough for me.

I'll be happy to re-buy any of the movies I love if the film gets a new scan off the OCN in 4K or better, extras or no (although I would of course prefer extras). There's also a laundry list of Universal movies I would buy for the first time if this happened.

If Sony's going to flog the same movies over and over again, they might as well revisit House of Flying Daggers (horrible video transfer, missing Bonus Features) and Black Hawk Down (to include all of the Bonus Features from the 3-disc DVD set).

+1 since they are both MPEG-2.

Their current release plan includes STRIPPING movies of special features. It's sad.

That's fine; I'll just stick with the 6 Sony BDs that I have.

If they rescan these movies in a higher bitrate is there still room for extras on the disc?

Yes, plenty. The Ghostbusters and Spider-Man 4K discs have about 20 GBs of free space.
