Save your money. The hot air coming out of your PS3 means that its cooling system is doing what it's supposed to.

Sony R&D on a high end Sony product or Pelican/Nyko R&D on a Sony high end product. Which would you rather trust?

Default dont think so

i dont think those pad will work.

a laptop is soo compressed and really doesnt have much big vents..thats y those pads work as they keep the bottom cool there4 keeps the over all laptop bottom cool

with the PS3 the space within is huge..so keeping the bottom cool wont help

my PS3 doesnt over heat..sure it spits out warm heat from the back but thats normal...as longs as its not crammed in a tight area u should be fine..

but i would like 2 see some1 test the coolpads and prove me wrong bc i did think of that when i first heard of PS3 over heating

Default just chillin

from my understanding of electrical currents (i know little of computers) electricity flows faster and stronger through wires the colder they are, the same is true of processors from what I know. also heat damages and degrades electrical components over time. so even if the ps3 isn't overheating shouldn't any reduction in heat be a good thing, prolonging the life of and possibly even improving performance? even if that improvement is slight? I will get one of those laptop coolers. if it isn't adequate for what i'm thinking, then my wife's laptop could use it.

I agree. As long as you don't restrict the air flow you should be fine.

Tip: Close/tight spaces are bad for electronics that have to breathe, so give the PS3 about 6 inches or more in just about all directions (insert favorite joke here ).

Playing movies or games, my PS3 will just shut itself off in less than an hour sometimes and the red light will flash until I turn it off at the back. It has at least 6 six inches clearance on all sides (except bottom, of course) and none of the vents are blocked. From what I have found online, the flashing red light indicates overheating. I'll be taking it back this weekend if they have any replacements available at Sam's.

Default an experiment

now this is less than scientific, but I went home and felt the top of my ps3. it was room temperature. then I felt the glass underneath my ps3 hot hot hot. I have the ps3 on an open rack, nothing anywhere near it. I haven't had any overheating ''problems'' yet. but since I see that office depot has a notebook cooler on sald for $20. I figure, why not.

Seems to help is just another way of saying that it still freezes but somehow not as much, due to me making it cooler. It's all in your mind.

First make sure have updated to the lates firmware.

If pausing happens in Bluray, then it's your nework adapter. Disable internet connection and B-ray movies will run fine. Hopefully this issue is resolved in the next update firmware.

If PS3 realy does freeze due to temperature, the red power light will blink. It's an error code listed in the manual of the PS3 to indicate overheating.
Basicaly if it don't blink, it did not overheat. And the Nyko fan is usless, waste of money, totaly designed for paranoid.

If games freeze, it could be a number of things.

If your playing PS1 or PS2 games, some games may not work %100 flawless.

Disks maybe dirty or scratched.

PS3 demos can lock up due to unrefined code, which is expected in prereleased software.

PS3 it's self can be defective if constant freezing and locking up ocurr.

----------------------------------------------------------------
I know from experience that adding more case fans to a PC will not improve cooling very much. It just make your system very noisey.

The same with PS3, or Xbox 360.

you know what...if i can pick up a coolpad for $10-$20..sure, i'd buy it and put it underneath the PS3...and just leave it there. I might be one of those unlucky guy that got a HOT ps3...besides the pausings here and there, much less now with the latest firmware (maybe 1-2 pauses in 5 movies), the PS3 is still ok..and i am enjoying it.

thanks for all the inputs guys.

I'm going to have to agree...mine never gets hot. If you are serious about frying an egg, you need to vacuum
My reciever running for an hour is alot hotter than my PS3, and I've rarely heard the cooling fan turn on, on it.

Default coolness

i've had my ps3 on for several hours now. I don't have a thermometer to gauge the venting air temperature. but the bottom of it is room temperature same as the top.

office depot has a notbook cooling pad on sale through saturday for $19.99. its a usb driven pad, and is just a little wider than the bottom of the ps3.

paranoid? maybe. but relieved.

It's for the Sony PS3.

65nm shift = March 2007
45nm shift = early 2009

Sony has been in talks with TMSC on finalizing the production lines for the 45nm components in time for the 2009 utilization of these parts in the PS3.
