Disney has yet to put the Ghibli films on digital... Debuting them in 4K Physical and digital at the same time would make sense and the digital release is long overdue, So let’s hope

Disney is no longer the distributor of Studio Ghibli content. The rights were taken over by GKIDS. That’s why they’re getting re-released this month. And while GKIDS has not released anything on UHD yet, their discs are distributed by Universal. But I think that Nausicaa listing is a mistake.

Ghibli does have 4k scans of the early catalog. But not holding my breath.

Not a film per se, but I just saw this article on George Michael's Freedom! '90 music video (directed by David Fincher) getting a 4k remaster for some documentary. Hopefully it will be released in 4k online. And I hope this is the start of a new trend. There were some great music videos back in the day (when MTV played music videos) that only exist as very bad 480p copies on YouTube today.

I saw that same documentary a couple of weeks ago on TV and I thought to myself "holy HELL the footage from Freedom looks amazing". Another hint (well, more of a party political broadcast) that it was newly done was several outtakes that they showed along with it, stuff that was clearly discovered alongside the takes used in the video itself.

I dunno if this will herald a brave new dawn for music videos in 4K though, plenty of them were done on film but plenty more were done on video. Still, I want dat Thriller remaster, like, yesterday!! No ****ing around with 3D please, just give it a spiffy 4K finish.

Despite the unexpected popularity with regards to tickets, last night I got to see the showing ^ at another theater with a bunch of longtime friends….and a couple
