Thank you for the explanation in the earlier post. I have been using my S23 to look at the caps a holic screenshot comparisons. That is where I noticed that the Mastered in 4K screenshot looked more vivid but the 4K blur ray image colours felt like it was being dialed back and silvery.

Rather than spend getting hole of Mi4K disc, I just have managed to make my UB820 emulate the 4K disc in SDR.709 and then into DV.2020. The colour of the sky and sand do look slightly different but it doesn't follow to what I noticed on caps-a-holic

The sales of those aren't great because they lack the prestige AND overall recognition, name factor, of Lean's biggest pictures. But you're right, and it will most likely take a LONG time for those films to see any 4K restoration. And I bet that John Ford and Howard Hawks will have far more films in 4K than David Lean by the end of the decade, even though David Lean had a head-start by virtue of having the two most iconic films.

Watching for the first time ever. I feel terrible because i fell asleep about 1/3 through. Dam it seriously was the most beautiful older 4K movie i have seen yet. Every scene is like reference Film quality definitely had my jaw dropped, and i feel horrible for passing out but it was a bad move to watch it on a Sunday evening.

I'm also thinking I may sell it when I'm done watching it because I don't have many older movies in my collection that I re-watch. So someone else can appreciate it to the fullest.

To reaffirm my point: Topaz is gonna get a 4K release this year. Topaz is perhaps Hitchcock's most reviled film, it's at least up there (or should I say down there?). But it gets a 4K. Because Hitchcock's name sells anything. The same movie, if it was made by David Lean, would have not gotten even a regular blu-ray at this point. I think only Kubrick's name has this level of power among american cinephiles, you could release Fear And Desire in 4K and it would sell a lot.

Lawrence Of Arabia is an event. It's impossible to properly watch it casually, one has always to prepare the right mind-set for it, and your schedule. I don't think it's a film that anyone can watch often, even its biggest fans.

Looks like Amazon is selling this one again? It currently shows as $31.99 (shipping from and sold by Amazon). Wonder if they found a box in a corner of a warehouse somewhere or if there was a quiet reprint.

Odd, it still shows on Blu-Ray.com but on Amazon it now is gone. EDIT: Updated as of 2:33PM GMT

It was there:

Glad I grabbed it when I did, I guess. Figured it'd last longer than that. Hopefully they actually ship it.

I mean, I doubt it was a real re-release. Probably they just found a few copies that hadn't been sold, or possibly it was a mistake and the order will get canceled in a few days. Hard to believe they'd do such a small print-run.

"3 copies! And make sure two of them have circular scratches!"

Update (8/13/23): I'm not sure why, but Sony either cancelled these, or delayed them, as they were not included with the September 4K Steelbook reprint wave. I'm sorry for getting anyone's hopes up here.

The reissue is dated for September 5th. Same for Fright Night Steelbook.
