This is how badly the average LED 4K TV on the market can screw up HDR. Most TVs on the market are truly horrendous for HDR content. Look at how badly washed out the colors are in the picture below, and it's even worse in person. I know phone pictures are a terrible way to capture, well, anything. But I'm sharing this to make a point that it actually looks worse than this photo I took of a Samsung AU7700, in the sense that the colors are even more washed out when you see the TV in real life. If this is the HDR someone sees in their new TV, no wonder said person will come away thinking that HDR is horrible and worse than SDR.

Mine arrived from Target today. Almost perfect condition - very subtle, shallow indentation on the golden front area, but I can live with it. My heart skipped a beat as the second disc of the movie was loose, but no scratches. The art design of the steelbook is not my first choice, but it does look better in person and it's nice to finally own this. Hoping to watch the film within the next couple or so weeks.

My Bullmoose order came in. No dents, no bending, no disc scratches; everything was fine.

Well, out of curiousity I popped in the first disc last night and ended up watching all of it. That first half actually went by faster than I was expecting. I've not seen this movie a lot, but I enjoyed the first half more than anytime before. With that said, all things considered on the video-side, I thought it looked excellent. I've read most if not all of the comments going back as I followed this discussion earlier on. The color and HDR is indeed really nice. Goregous in that sense. Just so nicely saturated and rich. Now some of the compression issues caught my eye, but I found them minor enough (although they shouldn't be there) but I wasn't too bothered or let alone taken out of the viewing experience...although I have not seen the 4K SDR version out there. The detail is generally good and outstanding at times. Some of the spots that are a little softer seem source related but I would be curious to see the 4K SDR by comparison to validate to myself either way in some parts. However, I'm happy enough with the disc(s) for now. The audio is excellent as well. I did find the dialogue somewhat more audible in TrueHD vs the 5.1 track. I was really surprised in a good way of the audio range during some of the battle. Will get to the second disc this week, but I really feel like I need to watch this in one viewing to do the film proper justice.

Finally managed to get in an order, and only about a minute before it sold out again. Hopefully Amazon actually fulfills it (I have no idea how reliable they are about delivering on seemingly-backordered items).

Reminds me of Films at Home's bad review of Inglourious Basterds, most likely because it had HDR10+ only while his set was a DV-only Sony. That's why I prefer sets & players with both, first Vizio & now Hisense both fed by a UB820. |

Discs whose transfers are optimized for one or both dynamic metadata HDR formats may not be optimized for regular HDR10.

Look, the TV I picked up also showed the same problem with some HDR10-only movies as well. The big point I made in the post hasnt changed: the average 4K TV on the market is crap at displaying HDR content. Is it that hard to understand?
