I hate to say it, but with the decline of physical disks for sale and brick and mortar stores getting out of the business, this price point is unfortunately going to be all more common.

I am certainly not agreeing with this sort of thing, and the studios made some bad decisions getting to this point, but if any film is worth that price point, it is Lawrence of Arabia.

Issuing a non-limited standard release of this will do wonders for that price point. No prophesied 'end of physical media' will stop them from doing that in the near term, since it would sell well, but they're not going to do it as long as they are still raking in the cash on the limited (a 'limited' that they seem to keep printing new copies of).

I can wait.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Celebrates Columbia Pictures' 100th Anniversary

Posted January 10, 2024 06:29 PM

In celebration of Columbia Pictures' 100th anniversary, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be presenting a wide variety of unique catalog offerings throughout 2024, across the entire Sony Pictures Entertainment library of movies and TV shows.

This celebration will highlight the studio's blockbuster franchises, fan-favorites and cult classics, quotable perennials and little-known gems, award-winners, iconic star-making performances, filmmaker-driven showcases, and everything in between.

January kicks off with two great ways to revisit the studio's library and supercharge movie collections, with both a physical disc sale at Amazon and a one-of-a-kind "100 movies for $100" digital bundle. The Amazon sale—across 4K Blu-rays, Blu-rays and DVDs—will begin on January 10th and will include deals on major library titles such as GHOSTBUSTERS, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and more.

Then on January 16th, in addition to an overall digital movie sale, there will be a "100 movies for $100" digital bundle available at participating digital retailers, featuring such acclaimed and iconic titles as THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI, TOOTSIE, 2012, MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON and many more. Visit 100for100sale.com for more information.

The 100th anniversary celebration will continue throughout 2024 with more details to come.

Not the sale you are hoping for.

Haven’t found the digital sale mentioned. 100for100sale.com just goes to Sony’s site. Columbia’s site isn’t much better.

The digital sale hasn't started yet. Anyway, these are official news by Sony.

About the physical media releases, they are likely gonna add more. Keep an eye on that page and future news.

Available for $30. But prior to that it’s been available for a long time, for about $50.

lol - so why even bother with a press release and hype it up if it was going to be a random couple hour sale on a weekday.

BF doorbusters were available longer than this. It's like they don't want money and want to encourage disc sharing and piracy.

Why even waste everyone's time with this BS sony?

For those that want to be semi-fleeced by Amazon. It is on now...but for the inflated price of $46.00.

Just noticed that it’s on sale now for $29.99 but not from amazon, different distributor with inflated shipping ($20 for shipping alone). A little weary to buy from other than amazon in case there is something wrong with it.
Anyone familiar with this seller? : the dreamland convergence

Unless this one is re-issued, it will not go back to $30. I 'had' to buy mine at $45, but glad I did.

So do all say who live to see such times. But then it happened yet again just last week.

Here in the UK, HMV have just cancelled my pre-order of the Lawrence steelbook re-issue.

They state "[Lawrence] has unfortunately been removed from the release schedule and is no longer due to be released by our suppliers. As such, we are unable to fulfil your order for this item and have had to cancel the order."

Disappointing, obviously. Hopefully Sony are still planning some form of re-issue in this year of Columbia's 100th anniversary. The demand is certainly there: the re-issue pre-order sold out real quick. And no Sony/Columbia post passes without the customary plea for a standalone Taxi Driver 4K to be issued!

Dunno what the up-to-date Lawrence 4K state of play is in other, non-UK regions.

Anyway, I thought I'd let you UK folks know!

I just wish they would release a standard set because I don't even want the steelbook. I plan to just put the discs in my old Limited Edition canvas case for this from the DVD.

I have preordered a Swedish/Nordic version of the steelbook with release date Feb 12. Will be interesting to see if it'll be cancelled as well.

Oof. I wonder if that means my Amazon.co.uk order of the steelbook is dead in the water as well?
