Same thing happened with the CD for the latest Indiana Jones score. But the reason it happened was that they only pressed 1400 discs. That number is the kicker.

Physical media as a novelty collectible will be around for many years, thank goodness. As a mass market medium, you just need to go into any Best Buy or Barnes and Noble to see that it's effectively dead.
I still think UHD is far more popular than Laserdisc ever was, especially in North America.

Possibly. I'd be curious to see comparative sales numbers.

I lived through the laserdisc era. I never owned a player, but had multiple friends who did. The two technologies feel roughly equal in their market share and saturation as niche products, at least to me.

Lawrence is my favourite film ever; it's the best. LOVE it.

But I aint gonna buy the 4K because I don't like the steelbook.

And I'm not going to get the standard 'cause there's no slipcover.

And the non-slip standard: aint getting it because it's not the original cover art.

Can't these studios get anything right?!

They do ship internationally, but I'm not sure if that includes Sweden.
I wasn't aware of this one! Put in an order there now, fingers crossed they get enough stock. Cheers!

Jeez, was hoping it would also re-released again in Europe. I don't really like pre-ordering. So I was hoping I could just buy it when it's in stock. Whats up with this release...

There's a standard plastic edition for retail or coming? Is it like the one in the Columbia boxset? Then why not get that one? You said that you don't want it without a slipcover but also said you want the original art. The slipcover has bland new art.

I'm sure it's buried somewhere in the thread, but is the steelbook release is the same disc as the Classic release?

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this post is in jest, .

But , for those that do share the above sentiment (and they seem to populate this forum), some things to consider:

Lawrence of Arabia is a bonafide classic!
Location shooting with arguably the best cinematography ever put to film by a director that was an expert at shooting on a large canvas. Multiple award winner including the oscar for Best Picture.

This film could've been offered in a greasy brown bag like a crappy fast food joint --- i still would've been proud to order it and have it in my collection.

I get it, it's nice when the presentation matches the product in an appealing package. Original artwork and nice slips DO make for an overall more attractive purchase.

But , are people getting this to enjoy and regale at the wonderous spectacle on their projectors or large screen tvs, or simply to stare at it's presentation on the shelf, never to be actually played?

Yes but all of them except for Lawrence had newer masters created specifically for the 4K version as each of them differs slightly from their older 1080p counterparts in terms of framing, spots with DNR, and not having the same remaster artifacts in the same spots

Which I'd say is definitely a good thing considering how Lawrence straight up used the 2012 master and it has a slightly dated appearance as a result

Nope, there was additional work done by Roundabout Entertainment, per the Columbia Classics V1 box set booklet.

This explains a lot

Either way, Lawrence still was primarily based off of the 2012 master while the others were entirely fresh masters

Though considering the painstaking process that was used to create the 2012 master it's understandable as to why they didn't do it again from scratch for 4K

Personally, i'd love just a regular edition with this poster, which I don't think was ever used for physical media before?

And I am done with Steelbook. I got rid of pretty much all of them. A regular case, no slip needed is all I ask. :P

The shirtlessness gives it too much bravado, and without the scarf on his head he doesn't look Arabian as he should on a cover.

I ordered this from Bullmoose when it went back in-stock. What’s wrong with the transfer?

Which begs the question; if this was indeed the case, maybe leaving it in SDR 709 at 4K would have been another option based on how the 4K stream looked?
