Other than to create some sort of FOMO effect, I do not understand Sony’s strategy here; how difficult can it be to produce a standard 4K release of one of the greatest films ever made? Sure, do additional steelbook releases and whatnot for collectors, but limiting this and other recent releases (The Bridge on the River Kwai, Guns of Navarone) to steelbooks only is just bizarre. This would be somewhat understandable for a boutique label, but not for a major studio.
