Ordered the US version as well now, trays and guaranteed the newest discs over the potentially older discs. Sure, the €10 extra seems worth it.

I guess I would too, since in my case I'd only have one J-card in the shoe box. The LoA one. The other one is cut and attached to the 2001 ASO steelbook back already.

But in general I avoid steelbooks like the plague, and only buy them when there is absolutely no other option and I simple have to get the movie on 4K BD. I'd rather have a standard edition and the specs printed on the back cover.

They got me. Pulled the trigger on this for $27.10.

Have always been very happy with the Blu, and heard all the negativity toward the 4K encode; caps-a-holic comparisons didn't blow me away... but it's friggin' Lawrence of A-friggin'-rabia; one cannot NOT have that on 4K shiny disc.

Is the Blu that comes with it exactly the same as the old Blu?

Somehow my second order is schedule to arrive sooner than the first order...?
It will never update since it isn't a pre-order.

Took it with two other titles (including one for sale to make some money back) for $80.97 including shipping and VAT.

Out of curiosity clicked the ‘buy this on Amazon UK instead’ button - £29.71 with free postage!

Between that, and the pre-order of the UK version that I used my first app purchase 25% discount on…I’m expecting to still not own this by the end of the year!

Same here, earlier today. And I just know it's gonna be damaged when it arrives. There was a minor miracle with Sinners...I ordered late June and somehow it showed up in August in a giant box with no padding, but in pristine condition. "Regression to the mean" will most certainly happen on this LoA Steelbook which means it's gonna come dented, smashed, and flat as a pancake...I just hope the discs are ok.

Yes.

I do like the color better on the UHD and something about the contrast I prefer as well. The detail is also more apparent even if slightly so in some shots. The disc feels more like a refinement over the BD.

Good to know it's not just me. I thought maybe Amazon was just targeting my account or something. I just find it weird because the gift wrap option is usually always available.

Thanks; appreciate your opinion. I'm excited to get it. Always seemed strange not to have THIS movie on 4K, of all movies.

My viewing of Lawrence of Arabia at home concluded just after midnight Irish time. And truth be told; it was the first time ever that I have watched this film in my life. And I have to say; Oh wow. What an absolutely outstanding film & enthralling story from start to finish. It is hands down one of the best films that I have ever seen in my lifetime. The near 4 hour runtime just flew by like an express train.

The PQ & AQ on the 4K disc was unbelievably gorgeous as well. It's definitely reference quality in my eyes. It looked superb.

I watched a documentary about this film earlier this week called Peter O'Toole: Road To Araqba. It's directed by Jim Sheridan & shown on British channel Sky Arts while being a co-production with Britbox. It had a lot of actors like Kenneth Brannagh, Stephen Fry, Brian Cox & Anthony Hopkins in the documentary giving their praises to Peter for playing the role of T.E. Lawrence in the film. Stephen Fry had even said in the documentary that Lawrence of Arabia is one of the very, very best films of the 20th Century.

All in all. I had a wonderful time watching this film. It's up there in my list in being one of the best films ever made within the history of cinema. It was a real privilege to watch a film which included the late great actor Peter O'Toole. I have only seen him in one other film before this one and that was a remake of Lassie which came out in cinemas when I was a teenager maybe 20 years ago.

I've had my eye on this for years and would love to get it despite the mild instances of frozen grain and so-so encoding, however it's an expensive import for me. What are the chances Lawrence will ever get a new restoration leading to an eventual UHD release? (hopefully not from a major studio label) or at least some other entity licensing the master and giving us a better encode?

I'll correct what I said above, not so much an expensive import from amazon but rather it's an overall expensive currency conversion because the value of the Australian dollar is total shit.

Stacking discs is a horrible idea, I’m sure it’s cheaper, but it’s awful.

You mean "older 4K UHD discs"? What's the problem?
