I'll be very honest, I don't love it in the normal sense of entertainment but it is still amazing within the prism of cinematic art. It is a giant and one of the most influential films of our time.

'Lawrence of Arabia' is also one of the greatest films ever made too but it is far more character-driven than '2001', which gives it a stronger appeal for viewers instantly.
The reality of both of these movies, they were meant to be viewed in 70mm movie theaters. As good as modern home displays are, they cannot equal the experience of viewing 2001 in say the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. Or the Mann's Chinese theater. As great as a 65 inch 4k Oled can be, it does not compare to a top quality large format film projection. It is a completely better viewing experience, that envelops your entire senses. This is what the Director and the studio intended.

Still remember seeing this for the very first time back in 1989 in Boston. The ultimate cinematic experience and pretty damn close to being the greatest movie I have ever seen.

I'm so excited to get the Columbia Classics set the week after next.

And as I expected, the split is identical to the Japanese Mastered in 4K BD

Lawrence was pretty much a given to deliver on UHD. I'm more curious to read some in depth analysis how Sony handle HDR on Mr Smith Goes To Washington.

I hope this gets a solo release. I have no need for like half the movies in that box set.

How long before this gets its own US release? I want it but I don't want that stupid Columbia box.

I’m in the same boat. Hopefully a stand-alone release will happen before the end of the year.

Same. Plus, the box doesn't look at all attractive and it feels very crammed and a little ugly to my eyes. I'm sure they will release it individually but the only problem is that it probably won't be coming for a while and this may apply to Dr. Strangelove and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington which are the only other films I think are worth on 4K UHD

Its a odd collection that Columbia box.

Yeah can't wait for LOA UHD BD to be sold separately.

I just plan on putting the cases on the shelf and the box in the closet.

Don't insult the box! Some of us are emotionally attached to it

I'm curious if Dolby Vision will only be exclusive to the box sets. That would be a twist.

Oh god. That is equivalent to "Green Book winning Best Picture" scenario but for audiophiles

for the people waiting for this as a solo disc, i don't picture it being as cheap then if you buy the box all together

with the amazon price of $108 and then the coupon a while back, it made each movie $18 dollars give or take + digital copies for each film.

I could see them charging $25 for each film when and if they eventually do release them separately

Even better for the cheaper prices.

Target for sub $80 though you had to work for it
Deep Discount for sub $90 with no work

Target was 73 pre tax for several folks
Deep Discount 89 pretax at least once if not twice.

Plus not having to trust Amazon's increasingly poor Media Handling.

That won't happen....it would actually cost MORE money to pull shenanigans like that.
