If you have the means to travel, Lawrence can still be seen in proper 70mm, as opposed to a 2k DCP. Unfortunately, the only upcoming shows are in London.

The restored version used to play every summer in DC in true 70mm, and I had the luxury of seeing it several times -- in more than one theater. Worth it. For some reason, screenings dried up a few years ago. Also used to play in LA

Can't wait to quadruple dip on the UHD disc.

For those of you living in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, Lawrence is being shown in 70mm at the end of the month at the Heights theater in Columbia Heights. They only show this every 3-4 years or so and it will sell out, so grab your seats while you can. I already have mine.

Please note the latest 70mm Datasat print is a Digital out from the 4K.
It is not as good as the 1989 restoration, some of the colour timing is out.

This actually played in a theater about an hour away from my house a few months ago but I was out of state that day purchasing a new car and missed the opportunity. Maybe one day.

I'll be there too! I've been waiting decades to see this on a large screen as it deserves!

I noticed that Fathom Events will have screenings nationwide on Sept 1st and Sep 4th. Sure, it won't be 70mm, but I'll be happy to see it in theaters nonetheless.

I was just in England last October for two weeks to catch my favorite team play twice (Come on City!), so I'm pretty sure a second trip this year would be a hard sell to the missus, lol.

DC would be far easier, shame it's not there anymore. I'd love to watch it in 70mm.

It would be my quadruple dip for the UHD too. (DVD, BD, Steelbook, now 4K)

2001 is the only film that AFI Silver Spring annually screens in 70mm these days and since it has a new restoration, they will likely switch to the 4K DCP. LOA only gets the 4K DCP now.

As the new 70mm print is a Digital out from the 4K they might as well screen the 4K DCP.

I agree, and I'm also glad the 70mm screenings I saw at the Uptown and AFI were the Robert A Harris photochemical restorations, which looked amazing. That said, RAH himself prefers the 4k version. So aside from the question of what's worth seeing in a theater, this is really good news for what we're going to have on disc. His words:

Take that 4k data and record it out to a 65mm negative (not an easy feat), and print it to 70mm stock for projection, and you have a more than adequate means of replicating the filmed experience.

It's neither as stable, nor highly resolved than projected 4k data, but it's fine. And those seeking a 70mm experience, will get one. It's not a matter of smoke and mirrors.

Well, RAH doesn't like HDR (though watching UHD on a projektor doesn't help in gaining the fullest insight on such matters) so he won't be recommending the UHD sight unseen, but he should be happy enough with it given Sony's track record thus far.

Serious question...what kind of projector have you sampled or watched movies on?

ABOUT ****ING TIME!

Pardon my cursing, but I just couldn't fathom for the life of me how Sony couldn't release this completely DEMO UHD on Blu ray earlier. Why did it took them so long?

I saw this in theatres in Barcelona in the Phenomena Experience cinema - 4K English, vose, with DTS sound. It was a DCP, but that theater has screened aunthentic 70mm prints too.
