Mine had no scratches. I never get any scratches.

Of course if you do get scratches, the trick is not minding that there are scratches.

My UHD Disc 1 starts skipping and freezing around 55:45 min into playback. I cleaned the disc w mild soap, dried carefully (I don't see any major scratches on the disc) with no improvement.

It is going back to Amazon. BTW, Amazon is out of stock for "sold by Amazon.com". It has 3rd party sellers only.

I'm picking up a replacement at Best Buy.

I know but I found an empty 4 disc 4K and switched them.

You just jinxed yourself. I'm afraid your next steelbook purchase will come with scratches. It's how the universe works.

Add me to the growing list of those that got scratches on the back. Actually it is scratch.... as in 1 scratch. But I have learned to live with it so I'm ok.

I haven't checked my discs though. I'm sure they are fine.

Any italian here who has gotten the italian set, can tell me if the 4 discs are all from the Columbia set, or does it reuse the old 2012 discs for the standard BDs?

In Spain, our distributor is so stuck up that they're just literally reusing the old stock and putting it on the steel when every edition of this steel in the world has the 4 discs from Columbia set..

Adding to this; I'm researching Google and I see no mention of the bonus disc at all in the italian pages..

Only the US and UK sets have the 4 discs of the Columbia set?? I may have been too late to get any of the two.

Disc stacking never bothered me - I actually thought this was a clever way of housing multiple discs, but now that one of the two 4K discs in my set got loose I'm having second thoughts. Loose discs are never a good thing regardless of the format's resilience.

Steelbook is OK but I'm still going to swap the discs in this set with the discs in the 50th Anniversary Box. PQ is breathtaking to say the least.

Found my copy at BB, BTW.

Is there a difference between the 2BDs from the Columbia set and the ones from the 2012 release? I thought they were the same.

Other than the movie being in one disc rather than two, there's also the fact that it's missing the special features disc. Half of the special features of the disc are in the disc 2 of the 2012 edition, but not all. In the Columbia set for the standard BD, the movie is in one disc, and the other disc is for a special features disc that combines the ones present in disc 2 of the 2012 set but also the third disc included in the deluxe boxset.

Please, if anyone knows, help me confirm if the italian and german steels just have the 2012 discs and no special features disc. Is it only UK and US?

I have the same question for both the Italian and the German sets: do either of these sets contain the extras which were missing from the standard 2012 Blu Ray release (and more specifically the deleted balcony scene)?

Apparently, the german steelbook has the Columbia set discs.

Nothing yet about the italian steel. I did preorder it and it's coming to me this weekend, but I'm not sure I'll keep it. It's useless to me if it doesn't have the Columbia set discs.

Thanks! Great news!
The forum you linked to also shows a picture of the back cover: that one alsof mentions that the deleted scene is included.

Not wonderful news for me as I didn't get that one. Let's hope the italian doesn't have the same fate as the Spanish one.

I only have the 2 disc edition from Sony (without the third disc of extras). Are they, somehow, included in the steelbook? I'm in the dark here...

EDIT: just re-read carefully the posts above.

Okay, I confirm that the italian steelbook also has the bonus disc. So basically, the US, UK, Germany and Italy steels all have the bonus disc.

Initially both German and Italian steels, there was no info at all that indicated that they had the bonus disc, not until it came to people and we saw the back cover and stuff. However, the Spain disc we do have the back cover and it strictly lacks the new extras. So given that, I don't understand.. at all, why only in Spain, we don't get the bonus disc. I sure hope it's a mistake, but I doubt it.

I had scratches on the back and very smudgy discs. Disc 1 played fine so far. I'll be testing out disc 2 this afternoon.

That is some BS that the overseas folk ended up with stacked discs. It's like the Sony Ghostbusters 4K fiasco all over again. Sony loves to cut corners it seems.

I'm holding out for a normal standalone release, and I'm not alone as a collector in disliking steelbooks and modern cartoon cover art. If this isn't Sony's most important catalogue title, it's certainly one of them, so it's weird to me that they only released it in a giant box set of other movies and then as an ugly steelbook. BOTRK has had two standalone 4K releases now.

I hope and suspect Sony did this to lure avid fans and collectors into buying as many versions as possible this year (Paramount did this with "Shutter Island," releasing a 4K steelbook and then the standard packaging 8 months later), and not because they're planning on waiting another five years to release a 4K in standard packaging for the 65th anniversary.
