I cancelled my $50 pre-order at the last minute because I'd been expecting the price to go down. Then it went out of stock everywhere and I thought I missed out completely. Then a few days ago it came back up for $50, shipping in early August, so I ordered again. Today I cancelled and re-ordered again, lol. Guess it was worth it after all to finally lock in a decent price...

Got my copy in from my Best Buy online order - but damn it all, the tabs for one side of the two disc holder insert snapped off in shipping so I have a disc that won't stay in place (and got scratched up). Gonna try to see if I can get a refund/exchange at my local store.

Watched my copy tonight. It looks marvellous.

Any way I noticed I hadn’t noticed before. The scene where Prince Faisal is speaking to the American reporter at the start of disc 2 had some weird frame skips or missing frames. The sound also sounds really different for a min. or so.

I am guessing this has to do with the restoration in 1988? It didn't seem like a disc problem.

Are we getting a non steelbook standard 4K UHD soon?!

I know Gattaca got a regular release after the steelbook but its been quite some time since the Columbia Box Set and I'm wondering if Sony is ever going to give it to us.

That's one of the restored scenes I think? I recall RAH saying that the sound of Faisal's pocket watch is actually his own, point being that they had to reconstruct the audio as well as the image. So yes, frame skips and weird-ish sound are normal.

Gregory Peck as Captain Ahab in John Huston's Moby Dick is one of my all-time favorite acting performances, and perhaps my favorite performance of Peck's. He's a force of nature in that film; really unfortunate that he was made to feel bad about it.
