You don't? Ask any random person what Lawrence of Arabia is, they will have heard of it, most likely. Kwai has to be explained to non-cinephiles, perhaps followed by, "I think I might have seen that." But usually nothing.

Bridge on the River Kwai is also very well known.


The reason LoA sold out fast(er) is because Bridge on the River Kwai already had many 4K releases before.

It's the 30th anniversary this year for A League of Their Own. Doubt we'll get it though.

Watching this for the first time and it does mostly look gorgeous, but I’ve been wondering lately if my TV (LG C1) has some kind of issue as some of the skies in particular aren’t very pleasing to my eye - I attach a photo of my screen - ignore the colour as iPhones “enhance” colours and they never look true to life, but the streaks are what I’m seeing - from 1:05:20 - does this look right or do I have a faulty unit?

Kinda annoying I got the steelbook from BB a while back and noticed it has a spine slash (they had no replacements). It goes right through the O in "of" so not easily fixable with ultra fine pen. Argh.

You are correct, the film age (or damage) is very evident at that time stamp. This is presumably the best they could do with the restoration at the time. The bluray and digital stream show the same sky anomalies.

Buddy, you just made my day. I’ve been watching a lot of classics lately, all with perfect video scores, and some of these scenes had me worried I was seeing something different than the reviewers were. It really is otherwise gorgeous for the most part, so no complaints! Thanks!

Any help? I put in disc one and my screen is just blank? I can only hear the audio. I tried everything from scene selection to turning off/on my 4k player, but I dont get any video from the disc.

Can't tell if serious, but movie begins -- and has always begun -- with a symphonic overture over black. There's also another one after the Intermission. (And don't worry if your 2001: A Space Odyssey behaves the same way.)

Oh yes, I saw the movie when I was a kid and have never seen it since. So this caught me off guard, a few minutes later and the movie played. I thought I had received a defective disc for a minute. I bought the movie way back in June and forgot about it.
