Gone again. Glad I got it at the cheaper price. What's with the daily restocking of it though I wonder?

Ahhh. Keep missing out. By all accounts Amazon UK have had them restocked but sold out again within minutes last night.

I'm sure, in 20 years, it'll be technically possible to offer uncompressed 4K to consumers, the question will be whether studios are willing to do it.
Right now, the closest we have to a service that does so, a glimpse at the future, is the Bravia Core service for Sony TVs. It allows bitrates up to 80mbps. Still not as good as an UHD, but it easily outclasses even Apple (Kaleidescape doesn't count because it's not affordable at all).

Unfortunately it looks like it may have been pulled, or delayed. It didn't show up with the other Sony Steelbook reprints coming out in September. Not sure why

The UHD release of this film is such a hot cake that I can't see at all why Sony didn't reprint the steelbook or just give us a standard edition.

Not to mention that none of the UHD titles in the Columbia Classics Collection Volume 2 have been released separately yet.

Someone on Ebay was breaking up boxes and selling discs individually so I just bought the remastered bluray of Oliver and the remastered bluray of Stripes with the newly released theatrical version. I'm fine without the 4K on those and for myself, this was the weakest box also I had just bought the Criterion of Anatomy of a Murder not knowing a 4K was coming.

Regarding Vol. 2, I really want Taxi Driver and The Social Network on UHD, and I'm pretty sure that so do a lot of people out there. Sony definitely knows this, I just don't understand what they're waiting for.

Maybe Sony is deliberately treating these titles like Disney did with their biggest ones back in the Disney Vault era.

It looks like you can do a backorder for it at importCDs. No idea if that's a new option or not. It looks like Fright Night 4K Steelbook is a go as a new pre-order is up for that at Target, so I'm hoping the same is true for Lawrence too., since info about both steelbooks came out at the same time.
