This is why it's a good idea to squirrel money away just in case you're out of work for a short period of time.

Some people claim that the chances of getting it is fairly low. The thing is, if the amount of people with the virus remains stagnant, then no worries. But it's spreading at an exponential rate. And the more people that get it, the rate is even faster! They're literally predicting that it's possible that 70% of the population could get infected. That's really scary when you think about it.

Some users here have no self control though and must spend every dollar right away on blu-rays and junk food.

I had a colleague at my last job that likes buying sports cars as a hobby. And he wonders why he's broke.

(A) is not an option. I have too much to do and if they don't get done, I would have to answer to the powers that be. Not to mention I have hundreds of emails I need to attend to in addition to the work I'm doing. That's the way my job is... trying to work while dealing with distractions. So annoying!

What makes working at home harder is that I only have one desktop monitor. At work, I have two. Much more productive with two. So, I ordered a second monitor yesterday from Dell, but it's not scheduled to arrive until March 25th. In the meantime, I just unhooked my desktop and hooked up my laptop to my desktop monitor, so I have two screens temporarily until my new monitor arrives.

Looks like Uber is majorly increasing their fares where I live.
A $5 ride at non peak times to my work is close to $10 now.
Glad I don't take Uber anymore.
I didn't even check how much a rush hour trip would be...

Buses and trains have not increased fares though.

California Governor Gavin Newsom "recommends" that all gatherings of more than 250 people to be canceled or postponed.

Wonder if Disneyland is going to fight him on this? Or will there be a carve out...

Pence: "thousands more U.S. cases expected". (no shit)

Officials seek to ramp up testing in all fifty states including commercial labs like LabCorp and Quest.

They really need to close Broadway shows here. I know that would be detrimental to that industry, but the risk of spread there is extremely high with how tightly packed the seating is. An usher that was at two locations tested positive, meaning they likely spread it to a bunch of people, inclluding many out of towners.

NYC also needs to close all publlic schools for 2 weeks, but that's obviously tougher with no one to look after thousands of kids.

Not really liking how low the number of people that are officially infected are in NYC. Clearly a sign that they're testing far too few people.

My city has already cancelled 4th of July fireworks.
I wonder if Washington DC fireworks at The Mall will be cancelled as well.

The reason the hand sanitizers are being wiped out completely at stores like Dollar Tree, CVS, and such is greedy people who will by everything off the shelves for themselves.
They should have a strict limit on one per customer.
A lot of the ones doing that are the ones who own those so called Dollar (and more stores), overpriced independent convenience stores, etc.
I went into one of them, and the stuff was priced at $10 frigging dollars, and was being kept behind the counter!
I went into buy a drink, but after seeing that malarkey, I put the drink back, and walked out the door.
An 8 oz bottle will last a VERY LONG TIME, if used correctly.
Could you imagine what D-Fens would have done with the situation?!

What really is upsetting me is how long the government is taking to take really drastic measure. They're like waiting until the virus gets really out of hand. I think the earlier they take drastic action, the better chances we have of containing this virus.

Well in NY, Governor Cuomo has closed down a public school due to this epidemic already, and many SUNY campuses are closed and holding classes online. Just the beginning. My employer is one of the many who suspended their attendance policy. So basically we can call-out (unpaid or we can use our PTO) with no repercussions, and if we get quarantined or actually contract the virus they're giving us up to 32 weeks paid time off. Sad part is I work with a bunch of lazy kids with 0 work ethic so I'm sure many will take advantage of it which will just make my workload heavier, but hey I'm an overtime wh0re so bring it on! Personally I'm not using my PTO for this, I'm not one of these paranoid nutcases who will scare myself into staying home. I could and have contracted illnesses at work, and personally if I were to contract coronavirus there are a couple managers I'd love to get close to and cough into the air around them if you catch my drift.

That's not how it works. That's why you always should save for emergencies.

Seems like most people live paycheck to paycheck.

Transportation authorities will never increase fares in a situation like this - that's not how they function. If anything, they may lower the fares temporarily to stimulate ridership. The MTA in NY had free bus/train service for a day or so back when we had a major snowstorm a few years ago. It's rare but there's precedent.

My local news just did a story about all the big box stores being out of toilet paper and apparently our state is one of the few that the price gouging in crisis law doesn't apply to. So grocery stores can sell 30 rolls of toilet paper for $40 all they want!

Luckily, the dollar stores still had some available and decent prices so I picked up 36 rolls (the biggest packs they had were 12) for $16-ish. But they said people were coming there next so who knows how long that will last.
