Weekend Domestic Box Office Plummets to 20-Year Low

As expected, the weekend domestic theatrical box office tanked as exhibitors limited seating capacity and local governments called for no large group gatherings in an effort to thwart the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

With studios scaling back new releases such as Disney’s Mulan and Paramount Pictures’ The Quiet Place Part II, among others, the North American box office tallied just $55.3 million — the worst total in nearly two decades, according to ComScore.

A lot of the grocery stores around here are starting to get hit pretty hard. No meat, toilet paper, water and other supplies too are vanishing from the shelves.

If people cant get food from the store where are they going to go next to get it?

I finally went and got some groceries since I figured I better stop having nothing in the house and always dining out or taking out food. Was chaos and when I picked up the last package of ground beef I could see murder in peoples eyes. Twinkies were picked over so guess I was late to the Zombieland survival plan

Norway has a population of 6 million, I believe. If they had to deal with the number of patients in US hospitals, they’d be in the same boat. Staff and resources are overworked and stretched to the limit. The numbers are just insane. Just my two cents worth.

I took a 10 am strength class yesterday. Later in the day, my trainer texted me that all classes are cancelled till further notice. The gym will remain open, but limit the number of those available to work out (first come, first serve). Just got an email from my local Planet Fitness that in response to our state's bans and restrictions, they're closing down starting today.

I always thought gyms were cesspools for sweat and germs anyway lol. Smart move.

Dr. William Haseltine, president of the global health think tank ACCESS Health International who recently chaired the U.S.-China Health Summit in Wuhan, where the virus likely originated, has a theory.

“There are four ways,” he told The Daily Beast. “One, it peters out with the weather. Two, everybody gets infected, so it’s got no new places to go... so it ends—but that’s a pretty horrible ending. Three is a vaccine, which is about a year away. My work just closed for two weeks effective immediately. We’ll see what happens from there.

It’s just a shame that the government can’t step up at a time like this and mandate that everywhere close and companies have to take it upon themselves to figure it out.

I’m wondering how long non-essential stores (stores that don’t sell groceries, medicine, etc) are going to last. Will those physical stores close and their online stores stay open, or will they all close? Will Amazon be forced to close? So many possibilities.

I have no idea if my bosses plan on closing the building but if they do, it'll probably just be for a week or two and only to help mitigate fears. For a moment I actually feared for my job but it's only 2 weeks. Businesses (at least not my industry) aren't closing shop forever. As long as they pay me, I should be OK.
