Exactly, which is why I'm pissed. $75,000 is a salary for the poverty, especially if you make that kind of money here in NY. No one here in NY has that low of a salary. If you do, then I don't know how you're paying half your rent. So looks like us NYers are not getting checks.

If they stick with the $1200 per adult then for single filers it would phase out completely at $99K (a reduction of 5% for any amount over $75K).

Quote:
The 2020 stimulus check, under the Senate Republican proposal, would have a similar income limitation that starts at $75,000. The amount would be reduced by 5% of the amount of a taxpayers income that exceeds $75,000.

Maybe in NYC, LA, or San Francisco but in most places the median salary is less than $75K.

Nope. Based on your 2018 tax info. Not using 2019 because not everyone has filed last years return.

If you requested a direct deposit for your 2018 tax refund - they will do a DD. If you requested a check - that's what they will send to you.

The median household income in the United States is $56,516, according to 2015 data from the U.S. Census.

Default NBC 5 Chicago: Chicago Doctor’s Blunt Speech About COVID-19 Hit Home Across Country

Don't know if this might have been posted earlier, as this thread just keeps growing so fast, but this was the bluntest, most concise explanation by a Medical Official that makes sense to me. It's worth reading. Hope this is helpful to anyone that wants to wade through it.

A local doctor's call-to-action has gone viral after a moving speech following (Illinois) Gov. J.B. Pritzker's announcement Friday of a stay-at-home ordinance amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Emily Landon is the chief infectious disease epidemiologist at the University of Chicago Medicine, who moments after Pritzker issued the ordinance to take effect Saturday evening, took to the stand with a 7-minute-long speech that went viral after striking a chord for many individuals.

Read her full remarks below:

So for married filing jointly, it's $150,000 limit and $2400 (with the same 5% reduction going over). Does it matter if only one spouse was working? My wife doesn't work.

I've lived here for most of my life and never made 75k a year in my life...nor does anyone I know.

What business are you in and what world do you live in?

Hope that's due to you being on Social Security. If not, you may not get any money.

Those on SS don't normally have to file a tax return (if that's your only source of income) and the Fed has you direct deposit info. If you get a SS check same thing except you get a check.

Considering the prices of rent, food, electricity, and other necessities... not to mention your paychecks pretty much gets chopped in half due to the insane taxes here, then yeah, you pretty much have to make AT LEAST, $90,000 to survive. And that's just living alone and affording basic necessities. If you want to have money left on luxuries, building up some savings, or have a wife and kids to support, then you have to make six figures.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do? Unless you work at McDonalds, I can't imagine what kind of job in NYC would pay less than $75K.

Under the original plan - you would get $2000 Bruce. $1000 each for married filing jointly. If you claimed children then add $500 for each child.

But there have been some changes to the stimulus package and the details are hard to come by.

We need to get more money to poor people versus the middle class.

Well, congrats. You just met someone who lives alone in NYC in a 1 bedroom apartment who doesn't make anywhere near that...nor does he live in poverty. And I can introduce you to TONS of people who are in the same bucket.

So, again, I'm asking you NOT to paint everyone with your wonderfully narrow-minded brush that you've used throughout this thread.

Or feel free to continue to say that I live in poverty, Mr. Patrick Bateman. I'm sure that you'll go back to freaking out about not being able to get a haircut any moment now.

Seriously? That's how you view things? Everyone in NYC makes 75K or they work in McDonalds?!?

Onto the block list you go.

Jesus Christ, man! Relax!! I was just having a conversation here. Not sure why you're getting upset. If I'm wrong, then I apologize.

And people here are saying I'm the one freaking out. Geez! People on here are losing it more than I am!

lmfao!!!! Really? I make 9,000 a year! I do have reduced rent & "food stamps", but still, I think I could find a way to exist on a paltry 6,250.00 a MONTH!!

This seems to be the latest news (less than 1 hour ago) on the stimulus package:

You're living in your own reality...not remotely in the real world.

And I'm perfectly calm. That's how those of us in poverty roll.

To be clear, I'm talking GROSS pay, not NET pay. Believe it or not, here in NY, our Net pay is SIGNIFICANTLY less than our Gross.

So if you're making $75K in NY, you're not getting $6K per month. You're lucky if you get $4K.
