Very glad we have the NHS here in the U.K (despite the years of crippling cuts imposed by our current government, something which has left them on the back foot to confront this current crisis).

My dad recently had a hip replacement op (thankfully just before all this kicked off). All done at a local private hospital, great service, speedy recovery, and didn’t have to pay a penny (apart from all those many years of paying tax of course).
Just hope we still have that service when I’m old enough to need it.

Absolutely disgusting this. For shit like this I'm glad I live in Europe.
Here in ‘Murcia, when you don’t have insurance, and you’re looking at a potentially life threatening situation, you go to a hospital emergency room, not a urgent care clinic.

Across the entire country? No. Georgia doesn't have a state-wide shelter in place policy right now, but several counties are apparently doing one.

I've heard about some churches still being open during this pandemic. Any church that is still open for services is being irresponsible at best & suicidal at worst.

The most egregious example of this is the nimrod pastor in Louisiana who recently bussed in 1,000+ people for services! This scum-bag should be arrested for doing this. He's putting lives at risk! To make matters worse, he says that the coronavirus is politically motivated. As far as I'm concerned, pastors/preachers that do this are almost as bad as that POS Jim Jones.

It's pieces of garbage like this that are the reason this @$%#ing virus is spreading. His congregation is just as bad, because they're following him & listening to him. What a bunch of sheep:

Thanks for the link. But, this is utter bullshit. If hospital personnel can't get masks & they're in a high-risk job - how do they expect the average American to find these? Masks are in as short supply as TP, etc. What nonsense.

I'm wondering of those doomsday people who build fallout shelters are actually using them now.

Oh, I thought they would have by now, being they have a lot of cases relative to their population. At least closing gyms makes sense even without a shelter in place.

Florida doesn't have one either I just realized. Not a coincidence that the conservative states are far more reluctant to do this.

I expected their stance to change as soon as masks become widely available. Your link doesn't work so hopefully it's true. If it's in 10 days then that's great news since they anticipate the mask shortage to ease up by then, and especially great news for the healthcare professionals that still lack them.

Edit: link works now. This is huge news.

I don't think it's wrong that guidelines are being changed, it just sucks that most people can't really adhere by them due to the shortage. I've been saying it for weeks now though. If we had an unlimited supply of masks (or several billion for argument's sake) and people actually used them, transmissions would be drastically reduced virtually overnight.

My plant is still open. I have a letter from work I keep in my truck in case I am stopped on my way to work during a potential lockdown. It states that I work at a critical food industry infrastructure. I make lunchmeat.

An employee at JBS in Ottumwa IA tested postive, and they supply pork to my plant. So, yeah.

Although unfortunate, if he went into cardiac arrest on the way to the Antelope Valley ER then it probably wouldn't have made much difference had they treated him at the Urgent Care given the area and distance between them would have been relatively small. In addition the UC most likely would had to have him transported to the ER due to the cardiac arrest.

However, if you don't have insurance everyone knows that you go to the ER because other facilities will not treat you either 1) without insurance or 2) cash payment.

Tell that to the poor people in Italy dealing with government run healthcare. Couldn’t be more happy to be in America right now during this

We have Medicaid in place for people that don’t do well financially. How are citizens treated? If you have no health insurance a hospital will never turn you down... EVER! If they did you would be a millionaire after the lawsuit.

Yep, if this story is even remotely accurate the person at urgent care would have told them to go to the hospital. Also this family had plenty of options for healthcare and chose not to. It’s like car insurance, it’s better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it .

He was 17, so it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't know the ins and outs of insurance coverage. I don't know if he was even aware that he had the virus. He was relatively fine just a couple day prior, and was coming in because of respiratory issues, which on the surface doesn't necessarily equate to needing to go to the ER. Obviously things progressed worse, and who's to say the waiting at the urgent care place, and the stress involved in being turned away didn't accelerate his condition and led him to arresting along the way.

They say the guidelines to wear masks won't start for 10 days, so the only explanation I can think of for the delay is that they are anticipating more masks to be available then. Let's hope so.

I hope other countries adopt that guideline.

Thanks to the WHO, here in Brazil there's palpable hostility against "normal" people (i.e. those who don't work in healthcare or are not sick) who wear masks, which to me doesn't make much sense (surely some protection is better than none?) and even makes me afraid of being publicly berated when I go out to buy food and medicine.

I feel the same way here, and I'm at the epicenter of this thing right now. There's still a huge stigma about masks, which makes no sense with everything happening now. I hate my clueless neighborhood so much.
