That's not true. I even posted some of the results from a couple studies done in Canada and elsewhere. And considering the CDC keeps changing their minds and advice, I don't see how their advice should be considered 100% foolproof.

IMO homemade masks that aren't of the right materials or aren't worn correctly do more harm than good. They give a false sense of security and lead to people touching the masks and thus their faces more. I saw lots of people in Wal-Mart last week wearing their masks half-down, or around their neck, or taking them down to ask a question, then putting it back up, while touching the front of their masks.

Then they go touch the keypads at the checkout or handle items and put them back on the shelves with those same hands that just handled their masks. So how is that helping anyone?

They should be pushing hand-washing above all else. They started doing that, but now I hear more about masks than hand-washing. They should be focusing on what we know is very effective, which is washing hands and using hand sanitizer when out.

Of course it would help if you could actually buy hand sanitizer.

I remember when there was a huge buzz telling people to just make their own sanitizer, and of course the components for that then quickly sold out.

No one really needs it unless you have no access to a sink and soap.

Right, it's great though if you're out shopping. You can use a bit to wipe down the cart handles, and sanitize your hands before you get in your car.

Corona starter pack. Mask, gloves and hand sanitizer. Or alcohol wipes instead of hand sanitizer since they are easier to get.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/texas...b6b2e5b8388499

"Texas Lt. Gov. On Reopening U.S. Economy: ‘More Important Things Than Living’"

“We’re crushing the average worker,” Patrick told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. “We’re crushing small businesses. We’re crushing the markets. We’re crushing this country. ... There are more important things than living, and that’s saving this country.”

"Patrick, 70, sparked backlash last month when he told Fox News that there are “lots of grandparents” who would be willing to die to save the U.S. economy."

“My message is that let’s get back to work, let’s get back to living, let’s be smart about it,” Patrick said at the time. “And those of us who are 70-plus, we’ll take care of ourselves.”

With an attitude like that, it's no wonder the US is #1 (at having the most infections of any country, that is).

If we have any old people left after all this, I hope they remember all this. Apparently corporations are more important than our senior's lives.

It's really sad how so many put money ahead of lives. This is what will ultimately doom us. If not this time, then next time, or the time after.

I think it's going to depend on what the large gathering size limit is a month or two before the race. If the race is small enough, then they can get the permits. I'm not very hopeful about anything this year, even the small races. Just seems that the news get worse so why keep hoping just to end up being disappointed over and over. Rather have it be a pleasant surprise. Hope your races happen but I picked two of the least likely to take place. Both huge races in the two of the biggest hot spots in the world.

Yeah Ruidoso is usually 30- participants and nobody's traveling so I bet it'll be 10- this year. Good chance it happens but it will feel odd if it does. Sandia Crest? ABQ marathon but not a big city so I bet it'll happen. I have never done a virtual marathon and I really don't want to but like all runners - it's really about the training. The race is just the carrot at the end.

Well, guess what? You can still buy the toys and greeting cards (only because there's no way to cut them off) but the Rite Aid by me has gated off the make-up section.

This is funny because just today I was at a Walmart that sold liquor in the grocery section and about every gas station I went to sold wine/alcohol/beer.

The Wal-marts here aren't even limiting the amount of customers. Walked in and out today. No sections blocked off. Still only a few people though, only about 1/4 in face masks.

Looks like I went there at the right time. They restocked a bit of Clorox wipes.

More important than living?

Call me old-fashioned, but I kind of liked it when the Declaration of Independence called for protecting the "unalienable rights" of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The Daily Fail went straight into the victim shaming and schadenfreude phase of the coronavirus cycle.

Interesting.

Sweden which is the only European country to not lock down has basically the same number of deaths as Canada which has ground to a halt and whose economy will be damaged for decades to come.

Similar number of deaths but less than half the number of cases as Canada.
