When they were saying 15-20% of the population had it at some point I thought it was BS.

Medical community has no consensus at all.

I think the medical community is screwed no matter what they do at this point. On the one hand, you have people that are scared and desperate for some answers. On the other hand you have people that are angry and are also disbelievers. So they are being pressured by everyone to come up with these answers immediately. As someone who has been watching for vaccines for HIV forever, I know that vaccines and approvals can take forever.

People are no longer prepared to wait for trials and studies - the usual protocol for these things. We have an antibody test that isn’t even FDA approved. No one can come to a consensus because everyone needs definitive answers yesterday.

Today, PA Governor will announce the first set of Counties that will move into the "yellow phase". The restrictions lifted from "red" to "yellow" will take effect May 8.

Overall, most people likely will not die but they may be less well off after recovery and beyond than they were before acquiring COVID-19. Death is an easy, cut and dry measure to study since it's obvious, but the long term recovery effects are less apparent in the short term and are worth considering as well. Unfortunately it's still way too early to know their full extent at this point.
I understand that.

But, take the hospitals being overwhelmed out of the equation for a second... The “experts” are saying that this will probably be seasonal... Meaning that everyone will probably get this at some point over the next few years. A few months of “shelter in place” does not really change that.

I ghink if we knew for certain that a big vaccine was going to come out and everyone could get it and the problem would be over with, that would be one thing. But it seems unlikely given how a lot of these kind of viruses play out.

Obviously I hope to be wrong. Maybe a vaccine wipes this thing out next year.

I just don’t expect that will happen.

The blood clot related stuff fits in with the idea that those with hypertension, heart disease and diabetes are the ones most at risk.

A statement from Irish Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, is expected to be announced in the next few minutes from Government Buildings in Dublin about the next stages of easing the restrictions from Covid-19 within Ireland.

Oh right. That was early March. By late March he was suggesting killing those who broke lockdown rules; and police were stopping cars to catch drivers who weren't wearing protective masks. Those not wearing masks were being dragged from their vehicles and beaten with pipes.

Here is an update summary as to what is happening these restrictions in Ireland.

70% of people who have had Covid-19 up to now have recovered from it which is great news to hear for the vast majority of people in the country. But more work will be needed in order to suppress the virus even further. Most of the Covid-19 restrictions won't be lifted within Ireland until the 18th of May. Some of them may have to be rolled back again by the government if the signs of the virus are not slowing down.

Some measures have been lifted from Tuesday the 5th of May.

- The current 2km limit for exercise & non-essential travel in Ireland will be extended to 5km.

- People who are over 70 years old can leave their homes to do some exercise like a walk or a drive within the 5km limit without other physical contact.

From the Monday 18th of May; the 1st phase of easing restrictions will take place in Ireland.

- Outdoor workers in sectors like construction & landscape gardening can return to work; whilst complying with current health restrictions*.

- Garden centres, hardware & repair shops will be allowed to reopen.

- Small groups of friends can be allowed to meet friends outdoors.

- Small number of non-contact sports for small groups of people will resume to normal.

- Schools & colleges will not reopen until September & October which is the start of the academic year.

*On the subject of building sites & other outdoor workers like landscape gardeners. These sectors can reopen if they comply with new measures like introducing the wearing of PPE's which will have to be up to acceptable standards under the current health guidelines in Ireland. If they didn't do that they will be closed down immediately for breaching Irish health & safety laws. If these sectors of work are seeing problems in not complying to the proper health standards. If will affect other sectors of outdoor work that is currently taking place around the country.

There also has been news reported today that a meat processing plant in Co. Westmeath has closed down production immediately due to the presence of Covid-19. A meat processing plant in Co. Tipperary has seen some of their workers being contracted with the virus but have scaled back production to continue food production. Maybe the Irish government will have to extend measures, from tomorrow morning onwards, to say that all meat processing plant workers will need to wear PPE whilst working in the sector.

I know you guys at this point are probably f' cruise ships, but there was an interesting video diary by one of the passengers on board Costa Luminosa (owned by Carnival, not a surprise to anyone).

Carnival still hasn't released a death tally for this ship, but an unofficial facebook group counts it at 15.

Wall Street Journal - Cruise Ship Partied On as Coronavirus Spread

Video not paywalled. You kind of see the passengers go from party time! to everybody wearing masks and ports of call not letting people on.

Hopefully it ends up being seasonal, but the CDC recently also stated "No evidence' yet that recovered COVID-19 patients are immune" since there have been a decent amount of reinfections in such a short frame of time. Regarding your second point, I think comorbidities probably are a big key as well. From what I understand, pretty heavy inflammation in general can be more likely to cause clotting. Around 70% of initial autopsy studies were in part due to clots

There has been debate on if people are getting re-infected or is parts of the virus just remaining in the system. The CDC`s comment comes off as kind of vague and almost meaningless.

Overall it seems the total cases/deaths aren't really falling in the U.S., but at least they are holding steady, at around 30,000 cases and close to 2000 deaths per day.

Good news is that New York has passed their peak, but other states are spiking to make up the difference. Mostly notably New Jersey, Illinois, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

California holding steady too, maybe even a little higher, mainly because of the L.A. area. Was hoping to see a downward trend by now.

We’re still learning about this virus. It’s new to the world. I’m a firm believer in exercising caution until more can be known.

For a number of reasons, what Sweden is doing can't be applied everywhere. That's what a lot of people don't seem to get. We don' even know if it's the right thing to do yet or not, it's still much too early.
