Yep, I moved from the city to out here in the country about 10 years ago & I absolutely love it. I should've made the move many years prior to when I did, I took much too long to make the move. It's been my experience in the last 10 years that people are just much more respectful, polite & considerate around here compared to in the city, & it's much, much more quiet & crime is near non-existent compared to where I lived in the city. It's just a totally different vibe & lifestyle around here. I love it. The city sucks.

Here's some physical distancing creativity for ya all:

Bookstore Browsing Can’t Become a Victim of Coronavirus
So if I walk into Barnes & Noble and pick up a magazine it has to be quarantined for 5 days and can't be put back on the shelf? Or am I misunderstanding?

Why don't they just sanitize them?

How though? Wouldn't that ruin the front and back covers?

I'm not sure how they could do this without wiping books down with a bleach cloth or any other way that involves chemicals on the merchandise that customers might (kinda reasonably) find objectionable.

UV lighting (specifically far-UVC) is one way stores like that should be able to sterilize a store on a regular basis in the future. They'd have to conduct tests to check the extent of disinfection, but in theory, it should work..

Yeah, running a UV light over the merchandise would kill the germs (hopefully). I mean, any store that sells any merchandise that dozens if not hundreds of customers would pick up and examine per day (aka EVERY STORE IN EXISTENCE) would have to have some sort of efficient way to disinfect said merchandise that didn't involve wiping it down with chemicals that would damage it.

They wont die missing their gym routine for a while. It won't be the same thing as their normal workout but the risk at gyms is too high imo.

I had a loud talker behind me in the supermarket checkout line the other day. I won't give any particulars, other than to say she was talking loud to the checker and putting her stuff on the belt, which put her about 2-3 feet behind me at that time.

Some guy at the gas station on Sunday was talking on his phone at the register. Idiots like that are just another reason to register for a gas card at last.

Even by New Jersey standards, this guy redefines what it means to be a meathead.

...the Babe Ruth of meatheads.

I’ve worked out a decent home routine for myself whilst my gym is closed. A combination of resistance training and high intensity intervals. Whilst pretty effective, it’s no substitute for the gym. When they do eventually re-open I think it should be 25% capacity max, possible less, and attendance should be by appointment. And, very unlikely, but I would like them to not admit any new members for a good while after re-opening. In addition to the social distancing and hygiene measures the last think we will need is people unfamiliar with equipment and the gym layout wondering around the place like lost children.

No, you got that right.

Baffling move from B&N. They usually have stacks and stacks of open books in the front few shelves when you walk in. So what are they going to do, take them all away? Are they going to follow you around and quarantine every book you touch? That makes absolutely no sense, and I think this is taking things too far. Has there been even a single case of catching the virus from opening up a book that an infected person touched? You need to be exposed to a certain amount of the virus to get infected, from what they now believe. I doubt you would pick up enough off of a book to infect you. Breathing/coughing/sneezing/talking close is still the primary way to catch it.

How can you browse a book store if you can't touch the books?

My girlfriend will be very sad if B&N becomes a casualty of this virus. She loves physical books and loves browsing B&N. It's really the only book store left we have other than small used book shops.

I think Barnes & Noble will be fine, pretty sure they're the college bookstore for a lot of schools and for that reason alone, they would survive. May go online mostly for some places but still survive.

I think this fall/winter is going to be disastrous. Think about it. That's when we are most likely to catch the common cold or the "regular' flu. Now imagine tens of thousands of people catching a cold or the flu and at the first sign of a sore throat, fever, or coughing, people start to panic. There will be no way to tell whether you have a common cold or the flu or the virus, without testing, as the symptoms are so similar. Is every shop and restaurant and office going to shut down again every time somebody catches a cold, out of abundance of precaution? Unlikely. So that means many who will end up really having it and assuming it's only a cold will spread it around, leading to more infections. By the time this started to wreck havoc on us, spring was already approaching. It will play out different this fall when it comes back for a second round alongside the common cold and flu.

Probably why some places are being too cautious but I think the super high density places like malls, gyms and movie theatres are going to have to be off-limits for the time being. Same for major sporting events.
