An important announcement was made for children & young people from Irish PM Leo Varadkar & some of his government ministers today. Schools in The Rep. of Ireland are set to re-open on a phased basis from the end of August unless there is a resurge for Covid-19. Creches, Montessori schools & playschools in Ireland are to have separate play-pods installed indoors for children under the age of 6 years old to prevent re-infection of Covid-19 among children, parents & staff members. Children within this age group can be allowed to play outdoors without the requirement to socially distance. (press briefing video for it is below)

The symptoms list for Covid-19 from the HSE has also been updated last night to include cases that have a loss of taste & loss of smell.

Oh well, summary:

"Over 40 staff and students tested positive for COVID-19 in the first two weeks after elementary schools outside the Montreal area opened...

A survey of school boards conducted May 25 found that 19 students and 22 staff members were found to be infected in the first two weeks following the reopening."

The thing is, we were repeatedly told children getting infected was low risk - and them infecting others also low risk.

Keep in mind this was all outside Montreal, Quebec's so called hotzone.

I've only been to Longhorn twice since restaurants opened back up here, but all the workers wore masks. Certain tables had a paper on them that said not for use.

I went on Weekday afternoons but the restaurant was pretty empty. Maybe 10 or so other guests, none of them wearing masks.

The booths/seats by the door for people to wait were blocked off too. Huge hand sanitizer bottle where the host/hostess stands.

They have limited item paper menus that they trash after.

Haven't been there yet, but read online that's what our local pub is doing as well. I'm like, I'll just read the bloody menu online.

The envirotards yammer on about how Covid has been a (temporary) blessing for the environment - but they completely ignore the massive increase in disposable waste that resulted.

My gym opened this week. They are running in shifts with breaks inbetween to sanitize the equipment etc. You have to sign up for a time slot like a class, it's limited occupancy. Before you can come in, they take your temp and you agree that you do not have or in contact with anyone who has (list) of symptoms.

When I work out, I sweat quite a bit. I've always been a little self-conscious about it...but obviously more so now with the pandemic. I wore a mask everyday this week. I was surprised as the week went on more ppl didn't than did. This is at 5am time slot, so it's made up of ppl that really want to work out...not socialize. I would have expected more mask wearing than not.

Besides the mask getting sweaty, I did notice it was harder to take in oxygen so made the workout tougher. I appreciated those that work with the high altitude masks to prepare for that environment.

Personally i don't think sweating should be an embarrassing thing if it's almost a natural thing unless it's extremely excessive and needs medical attention.

Mine is pretty excessive. I tried to see two doctors about it to get two different opinions and they both said there's nothing that can be done. They said it is just the way my body works.

So I've just learned to live with it all my life. I just have to keep wiping my face on a warm day. The only time it becomes an issue is if my hand is very sweaty and I have to shake someone's hand.

I have some sad news to give you guys. An aunt of mine had died of breast cancer in hospital on Wednesday. Her private funeral mass had taken place this morning in Dublin. My mum got the news from one of my other aunts earlier tonight. The news has left me stunned. I asked my mum did she have Covid-19 before she died. She said to me; no, she had died of cancer. I hope she is at peace now.

I can't imagine going back to a gym now. I'm like you - I sweat like a pig. It was 80 here in NYC today and wearing that goddamn mask this summer is going to be awful. I have intense anxiety which makes me sweat. The claustrophobic mask traps the heat and just makes it even worse. I end up having to take it off one ear on the off chance there are no people around me.

I picked up some gaiters from Buff that are suppose to wick away sweat and help with heat management. I have 3 of these and will rotate and wash each day, along with my gym clothes.

I can keep up cardio wise with class members who are much younger...that's why I love to take classes vs working out on my own. I can pick a couple ppl out in the class and set them as my target to keep up with. It's also a great way for me to release stress. I take 5am and 5:30am classes...I get it out of the way, get to work a little early and start my day off doing something for myself.

The classes will now be boot camp style and out in the parking lot starting in the second week of June. Looking forward to seeing all the regulars (we had a zoom happy hour with the classes and one of our trainers).

I've really missed it and notice my levels of stress and anxiety are higher not just related to the pandemic.

I had to look up what a gaiter was.

I wish we had that opportunity. Parking lots aren't really much of a thing here.

Yeah. My stress/anxiety levels have been insane. I had to take a xanax just to get on the subway today.

It's true that children are not very infectious, but that doesn't mean they're immune. It's likely that the students got it from the teachers. It says in the article that some of the teachers were infected before school resumed.

Keep in mind that there will always be cases and schools will be no exception. From the article the public health director said that the number of cases were not more that what would be expected, given the number of districts they surveyed, i.e., that they were in the "normal" range.

Quote:
The province’s Director of Public Health said Thursday that while there have been cases in schools, they have not caused any “significant negative impacts.” Dr. Horacio Arruda said some cases are to be expected as society returns to normal, but the situation is under control.

“It’s normal that by having the daycare, the school being open to the community, there can be cases,” he said at a briefing in Quebec City.

“The advantage in those areas, is that they’re young children, and we didn’t put any personnel who was high-risk [in the classroom],” he said.

Dr. Arruda said he believed that one school had to close temporarily because several teachers were infected, but most of the cases elsewhere have been isolated. Some of the teachers had become infected before the school opened, he added.

Agreed. Now, I don't think wearing a mask is as simple as I thought it was going to be. Back when the weather was cooler, it wasn't so bad. Now that it's hot and muggy, it's awful.

Well, i think some people turn to botox injections for the issus as it apparently helps reduce the rate at which they tend to engage which helps reduce overall body sweat in problem areas. Tbh, i tend to get extra sweaty palms and oils on my skin and whatnot at times when playing games or it is a little hot but sweating it usually just your bodies response to try cool itself. Maybe trying to find some cheap hand carry sanitizer to apply before those situations might be the way.
