That sounds . . . suspicious fô shüre.
I think the $26,000 includes the fines.

It was humor Bruce; someone didn't read the article properly ...

Indeed, that's the amount of fines for 16 people in Australian currency...or $18,000 USD.
* The chickens (fried) would have cost approx $200 more or less.
Normally an order would be between say $10 and $20, so someone got excited when they saw an order for $200 (10-20x more) or so, and called the cops.

it is 26k AUD in fines ~18k USD

and I think he was being sarcastic (i.e. if they would not have ordered the KFC the staff person there would not have said that is a big order and called the police.)

Keep reading comments about at risk people should stay inside while everyone else should go out and enjoy life. Ugh. Not all lives matter apparently.

Nope, too many half-measures that either don't accomplish anything or no measures at all.

From that last article just above ...

Quote:
What is distinctive in the U.S. response is that the country isn’t even trying to contain the virus, despite having the wealth, resources and a world-leading infectious disease agency at its disposal.

Instead, NBC News has reported that the White House is exploring a different tactic: telling Americans to live with it. Live with the virus. Live with each day being worse than the one that proceeded it.

For the experts, and for the average American, it’s increasingly difficult to understand what a way out of this looks like.

Even if an effective vaccine were developed tomorrow, an alarmingly high number of people would refuse to accept it, undoing its potential benefits. Even if millions more contract the virus, the U.S. is nowhere close to approaching herd immunity.

“There’s still a lot of people that have not gotten sick yet,” said Dr. Suzanne Judd of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. “So we don’t have general immunity to this by any means.”

Yet America is pressing forward with reckless abandon. The reopening continues. The response to the rate of infection and death has been slow.

Texas conceded that it was time for a mask mandate after breaking record after record for daily infections.

Florida has so far rejected any such measure, leaving it up to individual cities to do what they feel they need to do.

“I’m afraid that as a result of this, we’re going to go through even more pain and suffering,” Wen said.

In the United States, there’s no consensus about how to respond to the coronavirus pandemic, even if everyone understands where the country is headed.
I recommend reading the full article and make your own opinion.

We just broke the record for the highest temp for ABQ, NM. It's 106 F. Prior record was 105 July 1980.

Sweltering heat is exactly why I don't think New Mexicans will be flocking to eat outside at restaurants anytime soon.
