And they're not social distancing either. I really think we need to have officials go out into public and show people beating or at least reducing the spread requires:
Staying HOME as much as possible
Social distancing by at least 6 feet as much as possible
Wearing a mask anytime you leave your property. This means properly covering your nose and mouth to greatly reduce the risk of droplets traveling from your respiratory system into someone else's.

He's still not social distancing. Do as I say, not as I do, apparently.

I would assume that's his wife, next to him.

And, tbh, did you watch any of the games last night? Those players were NOT social distancing either.

Anyone that has a problem with this is clearly looking to have a problem with anything he does.

Is the other person also his spouse? I didn't watch any of the games, my team is the Twins, we haven't done anything in 29 years. Makes it hard to get excited for seasons.

I really don't have a problem with people violating that so-called sacred 6 foot rule, as long as it's for a short period of time. The problem is when they directly face each other for several minutes talking without masks. People, even with masks, should turn away slightly when talking from close range, so that the direction of airflow will bypass them.

I watched because (A) Baseball players are the hottest athletes going, (B) I was interested to see how they would handle practically everything and (C) it's the only sport I can tolerate.

It was actually very interesting on several levels. TBH, it was also slightly terrifying.

Formula 1 sadly won't be racing in Texas, Canada, Brazil or Mexico this year because of COVID.

Good call IMO.

How is Texas doing with the pandemic with it's recent upsurge of cases?

It’s been more than two weeks since the state shut down indoor restaurant dining service for a second time to help slow the spread of COVID-19. While patio and take-out service is still allowed, some restaurant owners are frustrated that don’t know more yet about what criteria that state wants to see before reopening dining rooms.

At a news conference, Thursday, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and her top health advisor said the state doesn’t have a specific metric like the average number of daily cases that they’re looking at to reopen indoor dining. Instead, the state says it’s looking at a combination of factors including the standard gating criteria.

“We haven’t nailed down what the target would be if we decided to add (7-day case average) as a criteria,” said Dr. David Scrase, secretary of the New Mexico Human Services Department. “But none the less, it’s just common sense that you can’t reopen very much of anything when you’re at the worse point so far, and the other thing is the gating criteria really all do go together.”

According to data presented Tuesday, New Mexico is meeting three of the four key gating criteria, including a manageable spread rate, above targeted testing capacity and adequate capacity of hospital beds. The state did not meet its contact tracing goals however, meaning it’s taking longer than acceptable to contact COVID positive patients or people they’ve come in contact with.

The rolling seven-day average of new COVID cases was far lower when New Mexico initially reopened indoor dining in early June. Around June 1, Dr. David Scrase says the seven-day average of new COVID cases was between 100 to 110 cases per day. When restaurants close indoor dining again in early July, the state’s chart indicates New Mexico was seeing more than 200 new cases a day.

The lack of answers about when indoor dining will reopen has left some restaurant owners frustrated. Tom Hutchinson owns two restaurants in Mesilla near Las Cruces. He says he’s only employing about a quarter of his normal 150 person staff.

“When do we open up? What are going to be those signals, those metrics that she’ll look at? They’re not defined, it’s not clear to us,” Hutchinson said. “I think we could all sit down and talk about that a little bit more and understand her concerns.”

A board member for the New Mexico Restaurant, Hutchinson feels there can be a safe compromise. He’s concerned about the loss to the restaurant industry. The New Mexico Restaurant Association estimates roughly 200 of the state’s estimated 3,500 restaurants have closed for good because of the pandemic. Hutchinson says restaurants account for about 80,000 employees.

“It’s not an easy moment for our governor, I get that, but I really believe that we can work with her and partner to come up with some solutions that I think are in the best interests of all New Mexicans and certainly my industry and we’re ready to do that,” Hutchinson said.

Our restaurant owner was quoted! He's right though, our governor isn't really working with the restaurant industry to come up with real solutions. She's doing whatever she wants, which leads to crap like Monday where she took too long to respond to a lawsuit so restaurants re-opened for 1 day and then were shut down again by the Supreme Court. I think it's either time for her to give us a clear criteria to re-open by early August (especially because she seems to think it's safe to re-open schools without a real plan to protect the children) or she needs to step down.

Dr. Fauci is an infectious disease expert, so he is immune to the Coronavirus. So he's an exception and doesn't need to social distance.

Ate at the most popular chinese buffet in town with a friend tonight. Masks are required for when you're at the stations getting your food, bathrooms, but you remove them when you're at your table eating. NO tables are blocked off and they were seating everyone close together. They had gloves out by the plates/food to grab the utensils for the food, but not required I guess because everyone was using their bare hands to use the utensils to get their food. We just said F it and did it too but I had hand sanitizer on me and we quickly used it when we sat back down.

I'm astonished that buffets still exist.

I think that is a bit harsh. The simple reality is that unless someone is an agoraphobe , germaphobe, anthropophobe... we all need to constantly fight our natural tendencies on this. And that means sooner or later we are all bound to have the laps in judgement that risks us catching or spreading it.

The irony is Fauci going to a ballgame and throwing the first pitch was a bit of publicity to help normalize sporting events in the age of COVID. The US is simply too polarized and cynical to allow anything like that to take place scandal-free.

The value of the exact levels of each to best accomplish the mission is unknown, at least by me. Seems like Moderna’s vaccine may be stronger at clearing the streets and Oxford’s is stronger at house-to-house door kicking and virus killing. Nevertheless, the more encouraging vaccine candidates the better as I see them as shots on goal in soccer (football). And as Tony mentioned in that facebook interview on the last page, it’s good for all of us that companies and countries are willing to take the financial risk in order to expediate the process when none of these are sure shots.
^ expanding upon vaccines and the immune response -
The gold standard for viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 has been neutralizing antibodies so they are definitely important in the immune response. T-cells, although being important too, there’s been some debate among folks in Immunology circles about the value of T-cells as to whether T’s play a dominant role in protecting against infection. Clearly, they are of much importance with regards to recovery from infection, question is, how important are they with regards to protection from infection.

Something to keep in mind as we see more data published on the clinical trials of the various vaccine candidates.

In the absence of a homogenous uptake in public cooperation with public health guidelines as evidenced in a country like Thailand and a lack of a federalized response to this situation, the ‘game-changer’ would be a prophylactic therapeutic that could be given as soon as an infected person becomes symptomatic, before rising to the need of being hospitalized, where things can take a turn for the worse quickly.

I hope that negative social media reactions, as well as being undermined by being quoted out of context by other people in the news doesn’t cause this scientifically dedicated 79 year old man to throw up his hands and conclude *I don’t need this anymore* and prompts him to retire to private life, because he remains such a valuable asset to society.

Heck, he has already needed to be assigned personal security because of serious threats to his and his family’s life far exceeding such as he experienced in the past with his work on HIV.
