Got up this morning and looked at 'the count' and see that Canada got bumped out of the main 'page' (now have to scroll down) by Israel which now has more cases than us.

On the news of Covid vaccines; a patient from the UK had received an adverse reaction to the Covid vaccine made by AstraZeneca/Oxford University.

The NYT reported today that the patient in this case has been diagnosed with transverse myelitis which is an illness that affects the spinal cord which is caused by a viral infection. But no other media outlets have reported the official condition coming from the patient at this time.

Regrettably as a result of the news that was reported today; all phase 3 trials of this vaccine in the USA, Brazil, South Africa & the UK from AstraZeneca have been paused until further notice so it can begin an independent investigation into the patient's reaction from the vaccine.

I can see the commercials now...they'll show a bunch of smiling happy people gardening, being active, etc. as the voiceover narrates the wonders of AstraZeneca's Vaccine..."may cause this, that, the other thing...transverse myelitis...please consult a doctor".

It's probably cause you celebrate like the end is near every time the numbers dip...and then, a few weeks later you are proved wrong again and again. We're seven months in, numbers are still high and the colder weather is right around the corner. Here in Wisconsin we've hit record lows the last two days.

And the people that only care about $$$$, not lives, are really pushing to have the colleges open up fully again. Every time a school opens here, it closes a few days later.

When people cant be outside all the time anymore, the numbers are likely gonna start rising again.

Like I keep saying, let the numbers fall...and fall....and fall....and then when America is actually on that path, then start celebrating.

I swear every time I peak into here you're pushing the 'it's going away' narrative. That makes people let their guard down and that does no one any good.

Caring about businesses doesn't mean you don't care about lives. You can care for both.

Well it IS going away, but that's the thing... People see it going away, then get careless with their behavior, thereby causing new cases to spike again. Then it's deja vu all over again!

It's like woo hoo, cases are down! Let's celebrate and grab some drinks at a bar, no masks needed!! And let's hit the beach and party with no masks! So you can see why what was going away didn't continue to go away.

The secret is to continue with our wearing masks & social distancing behavior even when new cases drop at their all time low. But of course, we know by now that people aren't going to do that.

I've only just glanced through this thread a few times in the past couple months because it was the same conversations and arguments from the same people.

I look in here today, the same person chastising the "negative spin" about a virus that's now killed 180,000+ Americans so far.

I'm not pushing for doom and cynicism, but it is so bizarre that one of the primary looping discussions here continues to be why are you being so negative about the slight uptick in this graph??

It's so god damned stupid. This country has failed miserably, we're nearing hundreds of thousands dead, and the conversation in this thread looks the exactly same as it did in May and June.

The time previous that I checked in here, someone who posts in here like every day seriously asked "is wearing your mask below the nose not a good idea?"

I'm out again. Just strongly itched with the need to point out what an absolute waste of time engaging with some of these people seems to be.

I said in late July that the case numbers would go into decline in August and that has indeed been shown to be the case. I don't know where you're getting this "proven wrong again" crap from. Maybe you have me mistaken with somebody else?

So simply stating facts that show positive trends is now called "celebrating"? Wow, that is the ultimate of negativity. I know the circumstances caused by this pandemic has been wearing hard on people minds though.

Surprising that I asked such a question, right? Now you know how even more surprised I am to literally witness A LOT of people doing it around where I live.

There are several different ways I see people wear masks:

-Covering the nose and mouth
-Covering mouth only
-Covering their chin
-Hanging on their ear

Heck some people are even wearing it on their arm. Isn't it incredible that we've reached a point in time where majority of humans in this world lack the basic intelligence to know the ONE and ONLY ONE way to properly wear a face mask?!

Look, if it were just one or two people occasionally that do this, I'd shrug it off. But it's A LOT of people!!! It's just downright shocking!

And then somehow, people are surprised at why this pandemic is never ending...

Proper protocol could get this under control in 3 months, I guess most people don't want that

Here's the thing. They were all supposed to get tested on Thursday, but for whatever reason he did his test on Friday AND when asked on the phone whether he had any symptoms he said "well I did lose my smell two days ago" ..So not only would he not have come to work on Saturday had he did the test on Thursday, but he also clearly missed one of the most tell-tale signs of the virus. They screen for symptoms at the entrance too, so either he just said no to everything, or the screener didn't ask the questions properly.

So now the place is in Outbreak protocol, and everyone including all the patients are going to be tested. What a mess. All the staff, including him, wear masks all day long, but it takes one slip like this for things to go to shit. I hope they all test negative.

Just want to update this to say all the staff (120), and the residents (86) were tested and everyone is negative! Thanks to those that lent their support, and well wishes for this incident.

My department wants us to have staggered working hours/days and reduce staff during the work day. This is to help prevent any potential viral infections among the office.

Brought a computer for use @ home yesterday. I set my work station, directly in front and below my tv, in the living room. Perfect.
I use dual monitors at work, but they only had one available to use. Better than nothing.

I have heard this evening that a lot of the Covid-19 cases from the past 2 weeks in Ireland have been from people who had already been infected during the 1st wave of Covid.

instead of slowing down the testing as encouraged by some, “there’s agreement among experts that America needs to be testing much more” -

The Company is implementing some more rules shortly to help with not spreading. Its an inconvenience but I’m glad they’re doing what they can to keep us open.
Incidentally, one of the other Diamond Mines up here has another presumptive case. Hopefully they make out okay.
