Wow, looks like the vaccine is scarier than I thought. Sounds like you might need to fight through fevers and body aches.
From the article:

Quote:
Both companies acknowledged that their vaccines could induce side effects that are similar to symptoms associated with mild Covid-19, such as muscle pain, chills and headache.
Quote:
While the symptoms were uncomfortable, and at times intense, the participants said they often went away after a day, sometimes sooner, and that it was better than getting Covid-19.
Quote:
"If this proves to work, people are going to have to toughen up," she said. "The first dose is no big deal. And then the second dose will definitely put you down for the day for sure. ... You will need to take a day off after the second dose."
We'll just have to wait and see how people are effected once it gets out in distribution. By the time we have access to it, tens of thousands of doses will already have been administered to health professionals, so we should have a better idea of how people are tolerating it.

Many people have very unpleasant side effects from penicillin, but it's something tons of people have to take when they get sick.

What I worry about is like the article says, some may not come back for their second dose, which again means this will be an uphill battle to convince people to take it.

It also sounds like not everyone suffers from the side effects:

Quote:
"You hear some people in the trials that are disappointed that they didn't have any of those things, feeling they must have gotten a placebo," she added.
Like the flu shot - not everyone suffers side effects. All I ever get from the flu shot is a sore arm for a day.

Pay people $1,000 to take it. It's the only way to get everyone (or most everyone) on-board. Especially if it means you'll lose a day of work and feel like crap for a day after taking it.

Quite right. It's impossible to have the data yet to prove anything about the effects on transmission, because that investigation requires enough of the population to be walking around already vaccinated! Anyone expecting such proof up-front is deluded and being vexatious by knowingly asking for the impossible; the scientists have explained this point several times.

The current 'flu vaccine is only ~50-60% effective sometimes, and people don't have a problem with that. You don't need massively high efficacy figures for herd immunity to work. The fact that we now have 3 independent and different vaccines, all working and all with high efficacy, is absolutely wonderful.

As for suggesting a need to pay people to have a vaccine which will save themselves and their loved ones, instead of those people having any semblance of civic or moral duty whatsoever or a basic desire to have the vaccine... I have no words. Over here, any and all suggestion of coercion, either carrots or sticks, is being rightly slapped down very quickly: it is not the answer and not the way to get people on board.

My nephew's stepdaughter has now tested negative (as well as her dad) so she was able to go back to him and his wife. She never did develop symptoms.

My sister surprisingly tested negative and her husband is still fairly sick. His temperature is just over 100, but has not gone down. He feels bad, but not too terrible. I told my sister she better keep herself protected because she will most likely get it. She thought she had it because she was feeling some symptoms, but maybe it was just allergies.

One of my co-worker's husband got it. Positive test and all. Coughing, fever, etc. and she never got it. Same with one of my buddies. His girlfriend had it with a positive test. Fever and coughing mostly, but he also never got it and they live together.

It just seems so weird. My sister just told me his temperature is down to 99, she is taking him to get tested again tomorrow. Their son has tested six times, all negative. He doesn't live with them though. They are not sure where her husband would have picked it up.

Everything I see online and in the news makes it seem like this thing is very easy to catch. But from people I have known personally, it's not. Like I said, I know people sharing the same house, kissing each other, living life normally together and only one of them ends up having it and doesn't give it to the other.

I live with my mom who had it but I never got it despite having no immune system right now due to chemo. It’s odd.

I guess you missed the "based on the science" part of the quote. here it is again:

While he believes based on the science that it's likely that vaccine does prevent transmission, there's still no solid proof of that.

The problem here in the US is too many people are ignorant or selfish. We have three options:

- Let whoever wants to take it take it, and those who don't don't. That won't work out so well sadly as many won't take it.

- Force people to take it with mandates. That's a bad idea and won't turn out well.

- Offer money as an incentive. Now people will consider it that otherwise wouldn't, helping all of us.

I agree it's a shame we have to resort to paying people to take it, but if it helps all of us, then maybe it's the best solution. It's better than half the population not taking it.

One person's personal experience means nothing here. We know it's easy to transmit. Unless you want to ignore the science and experts. We also know it's an odd virus and it works in odd ways. Somebody can have it and not even know it with no symptoms, someone can have it and just have mild symptoms, someone can have it and end up in the hospital, and someone doesn't even get it at all, all under the same roof.

Only like 10-20% of the people that get it are transmissible.

Despite misgivings by the WHO (from your past post - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post18325996) she and other local critical care physicians (based on personal experience) believe that Remdesivir may show modest, nevertheless significant, value in select patients. I’d take it if hospitalized and fit their criteria, keep that in mind for yourself and your family if so confronted.

mar, I agree. To clarify, the Oxford researchers have suggested the vaccine may reduce transmission of the virus because they saw fewer asymptomatic cases in their trial which is a hopeful indicator until we get more definitive data.

There are already rumblings in the Hollywood movie community about studios sometime next year requiring folks who desire to work on film productions to have been vaccinated. I think it’s a good idea especially if it turns out that lack of transmissibility with these viruses correlates well with their high efficacy in preventing serious illness.

December 12 is possibly a date closer to some vaccine distribution...in the USA.

Quote:
"U.S. vaccine czar says vaccinations to start on Dec. 12; U.K. booking appointments for high-risk patients."
In Canada that would be later ...

Quote:
"Canada, meanwhile, has been largely silent on how promising vaccine candidates will be distributed here after Health Canada regulators give them the green light — providing few, if any, details beyond a promise to work with the provinces and territories and buy cold storage."
As of now there is zero vaccine approved, none. Maybe they'll skip some steps?

Today 60 million confirmed Coronavirus cases, worldwide.
