I won't describe the situation...it's not rosy. Besides, this thread is about Coronavirus specifically, not cancer. You gotta help the weak and old and sick ... your friend, your Dad, your Mom, ...your world.
Serious health challenges place the priorites of life into perspective, quickly. BTW, are you allowed to remain in the waiting room up there in Canada, or is it a drop off and wait somewhere else like outside or in your car during his appointment?

On that note, at least at some medical centers in SoCal, in order to be extra careful about controlling the spread of COVID-19, not only are the patients (like with cancer undergoing chemo) screened at the door with pertinent questions and a temperature check with a remote forehead thermometer, but later after entering the building and upon arrival to the particular dept. itself, in another room, are temperature checked with an oral thermometer before entering the larger room containing all the patients undergoing their chemo administration to protect the later, as the oral temp. thermometer measurement is considered the gold standard in terms of accuracy and more of value than the momentary risk of removing the patient’s mask.

And for those requiring RT, the radiation treatment table and room are stringently disinfected between patients.

Bill Gates: By spring 2021 life will be headed back to normal

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/03/bill...-pandemic.html

I do hope Bill Gates is right here. He's a smart guy, so there's a good chance he is and that 2021 will be a better year for us.

That's a pretty optimistic prognosis seeing as how we don't have an FDA approved vaccine yet.

For me the unanswered questions are:

1) How long will protection last
2) Will it work on future mutations
3) If you do get infected will it reduce the likelihood of serious illness

Time will tell.

I know, right? I mean, we can't even keep new cases on a steady decline. And who knows if enough people are going to take the vaccine. And who knows if the viruses has mutated to the point where the current vaccines are ineffective.

In my opinion, we'd be lucky if we even START approaching normality in the end of 2021. But then again, my IQ is no where near Bill Gates' level, so I could be the one that's wrong.

Clickbait.

1. When he named his first company Traf-O-Data (and it went out of business). - got me there.
2. When he could have created the world's leading search engine (and let Google do it instead). - could you imagine the anti-trust lawsuit if that happened?
3. When he rescued Apple (and it became bigger than Microsoft). - and Microsoft made a TON of money from that Apple bailout
4. When he underestimated the power of the internet (and let other companies pass Microsoft online). - no, Bill Gates recognized the power of the Internet early and wrote a famous memo on 5/26/95, pivoted Microsoft to embrace the Internet (and got into a ton of regulatory trouble for bundling Internet Explorer but ultimately survived the antitrust suit and killed Netscape).
5. When the government filed antitrust suits against him (but he answered questions like a boss). - MS came out on top. It didn't get broken up like people had hoped. Windows still dominates PCs.

A better list could have been about his terrible magazine cover, the Nokia deal, Windows Phone, and Zune, or some of his more idealized naïve hopes for mankind.

June/July is my line in the sand, by then a vaccine should be making the rounds and hopefully putting a sizable dent in the cases.

I was looking through my Timehop and there was a picture from one year ago that I took of a bunch of cold medicine. I totally forgot about being very sick at the beginning of December last year, but I do remember being very sick at the end of December. A couple days after Christmas I could not stop coughing. I was coughing every five minutes or so for about three days before I went to MedExpress who diagnosed it as bronchitis, gave me an inhaler, and sent me on my way. I had chest pain, trouble breathing, and the coughing was still bad even with the inhaler, but it eventually went away about a week or so after using it.

So basically I was very sick all of December. Thought it was just a cold until a doctor told me bronchitis. But now I'm thinking I just had Covid already..

The end is in sight

Britain becomes first to roll out clinically approved BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine

Quote:
LONDON — At 6.31 a.m. local time Tuesday, 334 days after the first reported Covid-19 death in China, Margaret Keenan, 90, became the first person in the world to receive a clinically approved vaccine.

It was a landmark moment in the global fight against the most destructive pandemic in 100 years. In approving and delivering the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine, Britain is forging a path that will likely be followed by the United States and Europe in the coming weeks.

The end is in sight?

I'm all for optimism, but that's a bit naive no?

Wish there was a virologist in here...

One of the main issues with Covid is the body over reacting to the virus - my understanding is that's what's causing the bulk of the issues - I forget the term but the body's defence mechanism goes bezerk.

For some people it doesn't, but for those that it does the outcome isn't good.

So in a regular vaccine, they inject you with a dead form of the virus. What's to stop those susceptible people from reacting the same way?

Secondly, with the new mRNA based vaccines, again, my understanding is it's instructions for your body to start creating the virus itself - not a dead version mind you - but the same live virus infecting everyone - and then your body reacts to it and fights it. So again, same question here - even more so based on how it works - what's to stop susceptible people from reacting the same way?

No and the FDA in the US just approved the vaccine as a 1 dose vaccine, they just need to grant it for emergency use.

Quote:
Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine candidate offers protection after the first dose, according to documents released Tuesday by the Food and Drug Administration.

The information was made public before a meeting Thursday of the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, or VRBPAC — an advisory group to the FDA that will vote on whether to advise the agency to grant emergency use authorization of the vaccine in the U.S.
Is the celebration premature, maybe, but all were looking at now is getting it out into the general population. All I'm saying is the end is in sight.

Various Medical professionals having experience in immunology and virology speaking on healthcare provider platforms as well as some thru traditional news outlets you may be more familiar with have stated that the data previously publicly released by the vaccine manufacturers in the clinical trials for the mRNA vaccines have shown no evidence of significant vaccine induced enhancement of COVID-19.

Additionally, FDA briefing document (after their reviewing the raw data), released by the FDA today -

before this Thursday’s meeting - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owve...=youtu.be#t=1s, and with regards to public participation for the meeting, see - https://www.fda.gov/advisory-committ...g-announcement

Bat, in the meantime, I just hope that more hospitals don’t become like this one in Reno, Nevada –
