Well it finally happened...

Alberta is now locked down back to where we were in March - actually worse than where we were in March.

No indoor gatherings, now no outdoor gatherings, mandatory masks everywhere, a work from home order, casinos, bars, restaurants (except take out), fitness centres, hair salons closed. Retail stores and churches limited to 15% capacity.

All because a bunch of f**king morons couldn't simply do what was asked of them and be responsible, socially distance, and wear masks.

FFS.

I was coughing every five minutes or so for about three days before I went to MedExpress who diagnosed it as bronchitis, gave me an inhaler, and sent me on my way. I had chest pain, trouble breathing, and the coughing was still bad even with the inhaler, but it eventually went away about a week or so after using it.

So basically I was very sick all of December. Thought it was just a cold until a doctor told me bronchitis. But now I'm thinking I just had Covid already..
Chances are pretty slim unless you knew someone who went on an international flight to the Wuhan region. A December infection meant that you would probably have been patient zero for your state, and possibly the entire east coast of the USA.

Just one other addendum, the 2019 - 2020 influenza season was a type B. We haven't had a major outbreak of type B flu since 1992-1993.

The first “official” American case was reported January 20th or whatever, but I’m sure it was in America long before that. People in China had it as far back as last November. I’m sure it was also in the US in November.

A $20 copay covid antibody test is available at Labcorp, depending on your health insurance.

Actually I read somewhere reputable that it was detected in an Algerian French national back in August of 2019.

August 2019 is when that Algerian French national last took a flight, December 2019 is when he had symptoms and was admitted to the hospital.

I'm off for Christmas, but none of my family are making any dinner plans. They're doing what is asked.
I'll be alone and doing not a whole lot, which I'm fine with, and am thinking of going to work a couple of weeks early.

I'm gonna miss going out for brews and food at the pubs I go to.

I passed through my hometown on the way back home from work last week and was incredulous at the amount of people not wearing masks and doing social distancing.
They've been lucky up there but when the virus eventually gets there, I think it'll be devastating.
I'm guessing they'll be closing the border with Alberta soon, which should've been done long ago.

Yeah, it was revealed the virus was on the West coast in December

I'm not an anti-vaxxer although I do have some concerns about long-term side effects from a supposedly safe Covid vaccine. I'm willing to take the vaccine but I want a choice. Moderna or Pfizer. AstraZeneca cut corners and their vaccine is said to be "only" 70% effective so I don't want their vax. I don't trust Johnson&Johnson. How likely is it that I'll be able to choose my vax?

I'd hazard a guess at about 20% because of the sheer volume of these going out and the logistics of getting them to people who aren't first line providers.

So how are you supposed to know if you're likely to go into anaphylactic shock or not? I haven't had a vaccine since I was a kid...

I don't think it's likely to go into anaphylactic shock from a vaccine because I don't think people are allergic to vaccines. My pharma tech knowledge has faded substantially since I left the field about 5 years ago though.

I'm guessing you didn't read the article? They are warning people with 'serious allergies' to avoid the vaccine.

I've just heard the news about allergic reactions from the Pfizer vaccine a short time ago. This is bad news for me because I have had an allergy to nuts due to having eczema since birth. I also get hayfever in the summer time as well. That could mean that my GP could say to me that I'm not allowed to receive this vaccine at all because that instruction applies to people who have allergies of any kind including food & other allergies from medicine. I don't like the idea of fearing through an ordeal of getting a potential anaphylactic shock in my own body from the Pfizer vaccine whatsoever. I rather just wait it out a little bit longer until I get word of either a safe Oxford, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine becomes available from the GP instead.
