Your job is, unfortunately, thankless right now because you don't have direct contact with the general public. And, TBH, my general opinion of them is so low that I don't know that you'd get much more appreciation from them than the people at the stores do. I always try and be especially polite to people in stores because I know that, right now, they're under a great amount of stress and dealing with people who have very short fuses.

But just know that everyone is depending/counting on you to continue to do the excellent job that you're doing. This isn't just one person that's handling this situation and, IMHO, the people in the food/warehouse industries are some of the most important we have right now. Consider yourselves the medical professionals for the well - those that are sick can't live without doctors/nurses and those who are healthy need food and supplies to live and keep life running, however little it seems to be these days.

And be very happy that you're still employed. Many people (including myself) have no job and no idea when we will next.

Be safe and keep up the great work. You've got a lot of people counting on you.

A case was discovered in my town today. Someone traveled to Chicago, and developed symptoms soon after. Supposedly they quarentined themselves, but whatever. It's here.

Part of me hopes I already got it - disclaimer - I'm considered high risk...almost 50 with heart issues.

For about 4 days last week I had a bit of a cough, not constant, but off and on, and while not feverish per say, I felt off and in my opinion had a low fever...my head was warm to the touch - but not crazy.

Could have been something else....could have just been stress.

But who knows. There's reports of kids half my age getting it saying 'it was the most painful experience in their life' to people much older than me testing positive that didn't know they were even infected...

So I live in Upstate NY and was sick of the grey area that is the Lockdown so I called the closest NYS Trooper headquarters to once and for all get clear answers. I take care of animals that require me to travel daily and asked the guy if I'm barred from traveling to do so. The guy said of course you cam travel, we're just trying to eliminate group interactions and encouraging all non essential businesses to close. He said by all means go feed you animals and be safe. So technically we're not confined to our homes.

So far in Alberta...case increases have been linear - roughly 30 per day - instead of exponential...

Not looking good in BC however - by virtue of being next to Washington state...

I appreciate everything you & everyone else involved on the logistics end are doing, the rest of us owe you a debt of gratitude. Thank you.

Ok...so skip Iran....let's go with South Korea....or Singapore....they've halted it only through massive testing, follow up, and quarantine protocols - bottom line, unlike 'the flu'....warmer weather is not going to stop it.

On the laboratory front, the FDA approved a bedside test kit by Cepheid. Cepheid is a company that makes PCR analyzers for a lot of labs that run test cartridges for different things like MRSAs, GC Chlamydias, CDiffs, etc. We have a tiny tabletop version in ours. This will help out a lot because currently most hospital labs don’t have the testing capabilities in-house so they are having to send everything to reference labs like Quest where unfortunately they are being overwhelmed. Currently testing can take days to complete whereas certain Cepheid cartridges, depending on the test, can take as little as an hour or more. The good thing is many hospitals have this particular analyzer so the turnaround time for results will be greatly reduced.

Unlike what's been credited in stopping the virus for the most part in places like Taiwan and Singapore - that of massive testing - the US just announced they're going to stop testing unless they figure it'll affect the outcome of treatment...

I’d like to share my experiences as a grocery store employee. I’m grateful to have a job right now, steady income and “as many hours as I could possibly want” at my fingertips. Although I really wish people here in Florida would take this serious, I wish they’d be nice. I’d wager a good 95% of customers I have had the unfortunate opportunity to speak to say this is just hoax, it’s just a cold, no big deal, my life is ruined because I had a party planned, etc etc. All the anger and frustration is taken out on grocery store employees such as myself. Like I’m sorry we don’t have your eggs, milk, toilet paper, paper towels and jam you like. We had one elderly lady (in her early 70s) get pissed off that we “caved to the lies” and that we created “an hour for elderly and at risk people” to shop. People are crying at their lunch breaks and 15min breaks too. I’ve never seen such defeated faces in my life. I don’t know how it is in other states but it’s really brought the worst out and I thought hurricane attitudes were bad.

That's like refusing to examine a patient until after they have died.

I totally hear you. I work at FedEx and are numbers have jumped up and I expect them to get worse.

So, while I see all these people I know on Facebook sitting around at home, I'm having to work my tail off harder and longer hours...and when this all passes and people start working again, they will likely want to spend spend spend more, so I'll be working more again, then the fall hits and it's Christmas season.

Just kind of sucks knowing that some of us are stuck working like crazy year round, while so many get to sit home and are the reason why we have so much extra to do.

Half of society will be all well rested when the virus scare is over, the other half will be burned out.
