If they’re like me it’s for on the go when soap and water is not available. I keep a small one in my car after going in stores, etc. even before all this. I use it after shaking hands as well or handling money. It shouldn’t be used as a replacement for soap and water, however.

More people already have soap at home, and a bottle of soap or a bar lasts much longer than a small bottle of sanitizer. Sanitizers are used much more frequently if people are going out, and sanitizing their hands a bunch of times a day, so it's going to run out much faster than a bottle of hand soap, or wipes.
I get the impression that a lot of people have the misconception that sanitizes are also more powerful than plain old soap and water, and thus there's a much bigger run on those products. |

The news and social media are also highlighting the price gouging and shortages of relatively inexpensive items like sanitizers, N95s, toilet paper, etc. which will scare people into hoarding them all up.

Oh the folly of humans. A company put an interactive robot in Times Square asking questions about whether you have a temperature, or other symptoms, and giving advice about the virus. Seems helpful until you realize it's a touchscreen that thousands are touching, and if you are sick (regardless of with what) you could be leaving germs on the screen for others to get.

(face palm) oops, you're not even supposed to be doing that. here in DC we've had our first confirmed person with coronavirus. I was at the Georgetown/Villanova game yesterday and the amount of people, shaking hands, hugging and shit, was appalling, stop - just stop "touching" I swear, I'm going out now with disposable gloves and not touching anyone or surfaces that people have touched. |

Most people already have soaps at home, but not everyone normally has sanitizers. Compound that by people buying up extra so they can turn around and resell it to you.

I feel really sorry with what is happening to people in Germany. I'm fearing that it could become like the new Italy or France with the number of Coronavirus cases in the country. There are over 1,000 Coronavirus cases in Germany as of today which is quite shocking to hear as an individual. The German government put out measures today that will ban events taking in places that have over 1,000 people attending until further notice. It has also provided financial compensation to event organizers who have had their events cancelled because of the Coronavirus.
It is hitting a lot more sportspeople & events associated with Rugby, Soccer & motorsport recently. A Scottish women's rugby player tested positive for Coronavirus when she was playing a Women's 6 Nations match in Italy last weekend. Formula E in Rome recently got cancelled because of Coronavirus. The recent ban of events in Germany has cast doubt to the stagings of the W Series & F1 GP race's in Hockenheim. They could have their races delayed until later in the year. The Bahrain F1 GP will be held behind closed doors for this years F1 calendar. No fans will be allowed to attend. A League 1 match Paris Saint Germain v Strasbourg got postponed during the week. As the various weeks go by as this virus progresses it is going to be a very difficult time to see anything happening outdoors in terms of large events taking place in public while this virus is spreading around the world. Measures like providing hand sanitizer facilities to events need to be addressed at this time of the year when this virus is still with us. The England vs Wales 6 Nations match at Twickenham yesterday had these facilities in place outside the stadium in London. I don't know how much of a success that was when people were heading into the match. The Scotland vs France match went ahead at Murrayfield today as normal with a great win for Scotland. I don't know if they had hand sanitizer facilities available but it will be good to know if that happened. In The Republic of Ireland; there are another 2 cases of Coronavirus confirmed as of today bringing the total to 21. They are both community tranmissions which have occurred in the south of the country & in the east. Last edited by dublinbluray108; 03-08-2020 at 08:47 PM. |

This whole things just sounds so fishy to me. How on earth are stores sold out of hand sanitizers when they are so cheap and easy to make and MANY brands make them? Just seems a bit ridiculous if you ask me... |

Stores only stock so much quantity based on normal consumer demand. That doesn't mean there isn't more sitting at distribution centers, but it takes time to have more stock shipped in. Anyway, where does your sanitizer state it was manufactured? |

I have a few Purell bottles that say, Made in USA. And I have a couple of Rite Aid ones that say, Made in Canada.
These are bottles I've had before this Coronavirus outbreak. Unlike other people, I actually buy hand sanitizers all the time, outbreak or no outbreak. ![]() |
