Yeah, I was very much anti-mask but I'm afraid I'm going to have to start doing this. Seriously, if EVERYONE wears a mask, I sincerely think the spread will finally stop. I, personally, don't think masks help prevent yourself from getting sick, but it most definitely helps prevent you from transmitting the disease to others if you happen to be a carrier. And since this particular virus is spreading due to people not knowing they have the virus and are carriers, then I think it's best we all wear masks for the protection of OTHERS.

Why are doctors and nurses, all of whom were healthy before the pandemic, desperate to wear masks when treating people they already know to be infected, then?

Masks make it less likely contagions and whatnot will make it into your respiratory system or onto your skin. However, as I posted above, sneezing is a problem.

I was talking about everyone wearing masks weeks before it got more attention. I even got pushback from people on here for suggesting it

And for the record, even if you're not infected, having a mask on is more beneficial than not having one. It is an extra barrier, between your mouth/nose.

But that's the thing, if EVERYONE wears a mask, then those that sneeze will sneeze into their mask rather than onto their hands, surfaces or at worse, directly into other people's face.

Whoever is still sneezing into their hands even before this pandemic is breaking all kinds of social norms. You sneeze into your elbow. Someone doing that, even while also wearing a mask would virtually eliminate the threat of a sneeze spreading the virus.
