I’m outta here, can’t be doing with people like that.

Although, I’m sure you would have acted the same had someone just called you a liar.

Really odd post from that guy. I recognise that Social Anxiety and a job in Social care are maybe a contradiction. However, that is the complication of such a severe condition. It’s facing it or slowly fading away. I’m sure people even in this thread (never mind the forum) could identify with that.
Heh, it's very similar with me. I wouldn't say I've got any kind of capitalised 'condition' (though many forums members would dispute that ) but I just don't like being around people socially. I prefer my own headspace as other people are too tough to decipher and I'm just too lazy to forge friendships and relationships - yet I've been in customer-facing electrical/food retail all my working life. Maybe that's why I do it, deep down, so I can be around people but not have to bother with them once I clock off. In that respect, my life has literally not changed at all. Go to work, go home, go to work, go home, rinse and repeat...

The only thing wrong with his posts is your hysterical and completely unwarranted over the top reaction to them. Leave the poor guy alone. He is one of the nicest members on the whole site.

Even if he isn't a carer, (which we have no reason to doubt) it doesn't matter anyways because he is perfectly within his rights to go for 1 hour walks in EMPTY parks, beaches etc if he is out on his own or with one other person. It is groups of people who are ruining things for everyone else or people doing what they are not supposed to (sun bathing is not an exercise) not those following the rules.

You chose a job/career where you are helping others, that says far more about you and your character than any condition you may be suffering from ever will.

You are better than this nonsense.

You may not be aware of the anger there is directed at people who are flaunting the measures here in the Uk. It may lead to stricter measures including a ban on outdoor exercise altogether. Parks and beaches should only be used if within a short walking distance from home, no more than that. My response may indeed have come across as ‘hysterical and completely unwarranted” to you if different measures are in place where you are, however given the poster’s initial comments, my response was measured, reflecting the situation as they are here. For the record, I don’t consider any of this bickering as such, it’s healthy to discuss difficult issues and situations in a constructive way, but agree with others it’s best to not get bogged down in what could be construed as bickering.

I am in the UK and I read the Guardian updates all day so I am completely aware of everything going on and it is not people like him causing the problems.

The guy wrote a thoughtful contemplation on what he is going through personally during all of this and you jumped down his neck for doing something he is perfectly within his right to do regardless of his job and then implied he was a liar.

Not being funny but how do we know your OH is a health professional...because you said so same as he did?

You could just apologise for your own behaviour.

That’s an interpretation of events, thanks for sharing. As for your news source, again, thanks for sharing. The anger is real, if you think I “jumped” on him after his initial post, you clearly aren’t aware of the mood here.

Based in your interpretation of events I’m sure you think that would be appropriate. I mentioned in my previous post, difficult issues can be discussed in a constructive way. I get (not) the smallest of hints that’s something you’re not interested in, so as we’re on different pages I’ll leave you to it.

I don't mind being alone either and consider myself an introvert. Fortunately my business (making doors and windows) can remain open so I have a place to come to and I can socialize (at a distance) with customers coming to place an order (phone or in person) or to pick up something. I've always hated parties and the associated social awkwardness (unless I was drinking, but I don't drink now so nothing to loosen me up)

Also fortunately I have my wife and stepson (who is my sole employee) to live with, along with a charming 9 year old granddaughter (who lives with us permanently due to a deadbeat mom). They have to stay home, but they can keep each other company until we get home.

Hopefully this won't last all summer, at least let some of the non-essential business open in a month or two. Those which don't have a lot of traffic anyway. People need to get outside and have places to go to other than grocery stores and walks.

IMO the real risk right now is getting in indoor places due to the constrained air space. I think it should be a requirement to wear a mask when visiting a grocery store or other store. Outside not necessary unless you have to get close to other people. So perhaps a bandana to pull over your face real quick just in case.

Well, if I can’t get out with my client, my job will become ten times harder so I’m every bit as anxious as you are that a few People may spoil it for everyone. I don't know if you have any experience of autism but there are all kinds of difficulties in breaking routine.

Nothing wrong with being angry but you can’t just direct it at people as you see fit. Anyway, we can be civil and continue this discussion or we can just call it there.

Yeah, I think this is harder for really outgoing, ultra social people. I kind of love my own space and tranquility to recharge the batteries. I have said countless times, Film is my escape and always has been. Always been at my happiest in my HT with a new film or been with people who understand what I am like (family and small circle of friends).

In your case, I’m sure your family gives you huge warmth too and that’s a blessing for us.

Of course. But it just shows what a huge difference masks can make. If it were a requirement that masks/face covering be worn inside stores and on public transportation, than we we will see a flattening of the curve much sooner than if we don't. Enclosed areas (outside the home) is where the real danger lies.

As I mentioned in another post, films give me contentment. They recharge my batteries and always have done going back to childhood.i wonder how many other people feel that way?

I think your post emphasises my feeling that the way we live is often a contradiction of the way we feel. A case of needs must if you like?

The irony of that as I walk around is not lost on me. It’s like one of those Twilight Zone episodes from the original shows.

That’s the point I was trying to get across, just how contrasting my personal experience is with many others. Obviously, others in the thread have now come forward with their personal take, which is exactly what I wanted in the first place.
