Whats also funny is every celebrity/personality death in the last few weeks, if they die from coronavirus, it is in the headline. If not it simply states cause of death unknown buried in the article
What's surprising about this though? They usually state the cause of death somewhere in the article for celebrities. Of course it's big news if a celebrity dies from a global virus that we're all worried about, so of course that will be the headline. No surprise there.

There are just as many crackpot conspiracy theories floating around on the internet about this thing as there are sloppy articles. You have to know where to get your facts. Don't get your news from Youtube or Facebook or Twitter (or conspiracy sites). Anything you read on Yahoo, MSN, etc - get it verified by reading further articles from better sources.

The problem is many sites want to be the first one to break any new tidbit of information, without regard for checking the accuracy first. An example is the reports last week of the one who died on the way to the hospital after being rejected by the clinic because he didn't have insurance. Lots of sites reported on that, but none fact-checked. It was reported later in the week that that info was incorrect - he never went to the clinic, and he did have insurance - his dad called the clinic, and asked what to do, and he was (correctly) advised to go straight to the hospital, which he did. His son had a heart attack on the way, and died hours later in the hospital (he was tested positive for the virus there).

If they had fact-checked in the first place, they would not have posted all that false information. Instead, they rushed the story without even giving the dad or the clinic or the hospital a call, instead just reporting using the fragments of info they currently had.

But as I said, just because we have bad journalism doesn't mean this isn't serious.
totally agree man. i dont have facebook or twitter. so i watch several news outlets (since they all have their agendas) and verify articles online with several other articles. most articles exclude vital information which is found in other articles. the whole thing is a mess.

i agree this is very serious, that was not my intention to minimize that fact

Yeah, grocery stores have not handled things correctly right from the beginning. Nobody had a plan here. An article on Trader Joe's last week didn't look so good regarding how they were handling cases in their stores. Meanwhile stores like Hobby Lobby defying orders and staying open despite employee fears and local/state orders, and Gamestop trying to prove they are an essential business.

If local grocery stores start shutting down, even temporarily for cleaning, due to employees dying, this will add a lot of additional chaos to the grocery shortage. Many people only have a couple grocery stores nearby, and if they are closed for days for cleaning, or because employees refuse to come to work, it's going to get desperate for some people.

I definitely agree that news reporting is a mess these days. They all have their agendas - some more blatant than others. Some are actively spreading misinformation and risking harm to the public in doing so, all for ratings. It's disgusting.

All we can do is try to sift through it all to get the facts as best we can.

Poor toilet paper hoarders. All they ever wanted was to ensure they could comfortably wipe their asses for the duration of an indefinite lockdown. And the cruel, cruel internet has shamed them for it.

Some news today about Covid-19 in The Republic of Ireland.

There have been 42,484 tests carried out across the Irish health system since midnight last night. 12,271 (19%) of these tests carried out within the past week have come back positive for the virus. The numbers of the total testing for Coronavirus has been ramped up significantly in Ireland within the past week with 40% of tests carried out over the past seven days.

Dr. Tony Holohan has said on RTÉ's Ireland on Call this evening that Irish people should not need to wear masks to flatten the curve on Coronavirus as the risk is still low.

But he also said that the easing of restrictions from Coronavirus in Ireland would come in when the time is right. And that will not be happening on Easter Sunday. Professor Sam McConkey has said the current set of restrictions are beginning to see a fall in the numbers of community transmission of the virus. He said that they may last longer for another two weeks to see the amount of community transmissions of the virus in the country, if the government wants to introduce more ''hell for leather'' measures, drop even further as we go into the summer.

This thing has given me panic attacks beyond my wildest dreams. I'll have to deal with that alone, but as far as the virus and the hysteria surrounding it, we are all in this together, and I feel good knowing that we will get through it together. I don't mean to sound corny or loopy, but I've found positivity is one of the few things keeping me healthy right now. That and my N95 and social distancing...

I'm finding this forum, at least the movie side of it, to be cathartic as well. It's good to talk movies and watch movies as the world stands still. I thought living through 9/11 was going to be the biggest event of my life. That's no longer the case. Regardless of how the media is handling things (I've stayed far away because of the obvious), let's stay home and watch movies and in a few weeks, or month or two, we'll be back to some sense of life. I cannot wait for the day.... when I can also walk inside a Best Buy again.

I still want to know why of all goods in a store why everyone flocked to paper products? I mean bottled water and nonperishables/canned goods didn't start flying off the shelves til after everyone wiped out TP/paper towels.

Again, most people only bought a couple weeks' worth. It's a few hoarders and Ebay sellers that bought dozens at a time that ruined it for the rest of us. There's nothing wrong with buying a 2-3 week supply when you're in the middle of an emergency. There is something wrong with filling your cart full of it to sell at 10x the price on Ebay.

Remember they are now telling us not to go into grocery stores for the next two weeks, as this is the critical stage where the curve may be approaching peak. So it's not at all unreasonable that people were shopping for a couple weeks at a time. We had no idea from one day to the next how stock would hold up, or what the officials would be telling us.

Liquor stores among businesses that must stop in-person operations in NM

Quote:
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Gov. Michelle Lujan announced Monday that she is strengthening and extending her emergency order, which limits business in New Mexico, to April 30.

The new order requires all retail operations that are considered essential businesses – including grocery stores – to limit their occupancy.

The maximum number of customers in the retail space must be equal to 20 percent or less of the maximum occupancy of the retail space, as determined by the relevant fire marshal or fire department.

Customers who are waiting outside stores must be adhering to the social distancing guidelines of standing at least six feet apart.

Liquor stores, payday lenders and auto dealership must stop in-person operations, according to the new order.

The governor's office added that liquor stores cannot operate drive-thru services. The governor's office also clarified that auto repair shops, which are operated at a dealership, can remain open. The governor's order pertains to in-person sales at dealerships. Online sales can still take place.

The new order also forces hotels, motels, RV parks, and other places of lodging to reduce their maximum occupancy to 25% instead of the previous order that set a limit at 50%.

Read my post above. Water pours out of faucets. Bathroom tissue doesn't. We aren't expecting armageddon here, or the zombie apocalypse, where water resources dry up, and we're eating cold food out of cans with no electricity. It's just shortages of certain supplies. Obviously with everyone stuck at home, all cramped up together, there will be more food and bathroom tissue/supplies needed. That's common sense. If worse comes to worse with no fancy bottled water, you can still turn on your faucet. If you run out of bathroom tissue, things get a lot more desperate.

Again, those shortages were caused by Ebayers and hoarders. It wasn't the average person loading up their grocery carts with this stuff.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/coron...171734990.html

"Supermarket shortages across the UK have not been driven by hoarders raiding shelves but by ordinary shoppers making more trips to the shops and buying slightly more than usual, according to market research."

"The average spend per supermarket trip rose by 16% to £22.13 in the week ending 17 March, Kantar said. That same week, Brits made an extra 15m visits to the supermarket, compared to a month earlier. Kantar based its conclusions on the analysis of 100,000 people’s shopping habits in Britain.

Fraser said the uptick in visits and spending could be driven by people having more meals at home."

I mentioned this last week. That article (which was from a couple weeks ago) said supermarket research showed the average shopper spent an additional £22.13 - 16% more than average. Grocery stores just weren't prepared for every shopper buying/spending another 16% more goods. Grocery stores carefully balance their stock based on their previous trends and they know how much to order - when every shopper is suddenly home 24/7 and needs more supplies, grocery stores aren't equipped to handle the load.

That doesn't mean people are hoarding. It means people are home more and need more supplies.

So I decided to venture our today to go to my local Dollar Tree to pick up munchies which I am out of. Instead of buying for 5 days which allows me to get out of the house I shopped for 10 days instead.

No TP. No rice. No canned soups other than chicken noodle. No canned anything other than pork and beans (yuk). They did have paper towels though. The soda aisle was stocked as was the munchie and candy aisles. Store limit is 10 people.

If I am frugal I can make the munchies last till the 20th when I have to go see my doctor.

Traffic on Coors was pretty much the same as always. Target's parking lot was 1/4 full. DT is the only store open in the strip mall with Target on the other side of it.
