Here is what they are afraid of . . .

If China was willing to close a whole city, a major economic center, that says something.

There is no true balance as because if enough of the population dies, who will work. Economy is screwed. Closing off the economy so you can preserve your workforce. Economy is screwed.

While COVID was seen as virus that only killed the old, it is becoming clear this virus doesn't see age. It kills regardless.

Here in NM they closed liquor stores yet Walmart's Spirits & Wines section was wide open available for purchase.

It's not about opening too soon as you are saying. It's about leveling the playing field during the Stay-At-Open mandates. What's good for the goose should be good for the gander.
Then block off the non-essential items, simple. Target has already begun doing this in certain states.

Resistance against what? He was lawfully in the park, so he had a right to be there. The cops were the ones exposing him to the virus by bothering them. He wasn't doing anything wrong. The police should not have even been bothering them.

We've all seen plenty of cases of police overstepping their boundaries and harassing people. I have had it happen myself several times in my life.

Yup, I may be a food service industry employee but that's my biggest concern right now about getting food to go right now. How do you know one of the employees in that restaurant isn't infected and spreading the disease to everyone else in that restaurant?

That's the "sensationalist media" mentality talking.
We should only believe it if someone filmed it on their cell phone, no doubt cutting off the first 30 seconds which are, usually, the most important part for context. But, regardless, still more reliable than mainstream media. /s

Yes - in Vermont and I think Michigan. What about the other 48 states?

Governors are elected officials. They need money to run their campaigns. Will they take the necessary steps to level the playing field and angering Walmart & Target who are large contributors to politicians?

Keep in mind that it's only 2 weeks until the supposed reopening's. Probably too late now to do so.

I don't know about there, but where I live there is an ordinance against any sports where a ball is shared, unless it's family members.

I don't know what the exchange was when the cops arrived, but if the ball sharing was against regulations, then perhaps the man shouting some profanities when the cops started questioning him. That certainly sounds more plausible then they just show up and arrest him without any kind of resistance (verbal or physical).

What's non-essential and who gets to decide? Are baby strollers non-essential. Some workers at some Wal-Marts seem to think so, but corporate says they are after some confusion. I've heard of some places blocking off pet food. So pet food isn't essential? Clothes aren't essential? So you're in a store that sells books and magazines but you can't buy them? None of that make much sense.

I saw the picture of the sign on the local TV news report. It clearly stated CLOSED, but underneath it clearly also said open for groups of 4 or less as long as they stay 6 feet apart. It didn't prohibit playing ball, therefore one has to think playing ball is allowed.

We've all seen stories of police acting "unprofessional" to say the least. The news is littered with stories and videos.

So I take it you're for reopening all stores which sells these items?

So then it should not come as such a shock as you are making it out to be. I'm sure there are tons of instances where police overstep their authority. Keep in mind that ANYONE who is arrested has to appear before a judge (called an arraignment) who decides if the law was broken or not.

And if said judge throws out the case which in this instance would probably be the outcome, that father can now sue the city for false arrest. BINGO - his kid's college fund is all taken care of.

I didn't say that.

But if you're in the store to buy supplies, I see no intelligent reason or any way it would do much to curb the virus to not let you buy a book or a pair of socks while you're there.

I was in Wal-Mart today and it was pure chaos. And most of it was due to people buying food and health supplies. The rest of the store was open, and one guy was in line with a 32" TV, but most were there for food. I doubt there would have been any reduction in everyone's risk of getting the virus if the guy buying the TV wasn't allowed to. It still would have been chaos.

I wasn't making it out to be a shock. Just pointing out that as usual, we have some police out there that are stepping beyond their authority and causing trouble where there isn't trouble. There are gangs of dozens of people out there blatantly violating the laws like "Operation Gridlock", that are actually putting others at risk, yet the cops bother a dad playing ball in a park when the sign says it's okay?

Internal investigation hopefully leads to the police officer being fired if he did indeed overstep.

Level The Playing Field. THAT'S what matters. To make sure that EVERYONE is treated equally. Try to go to your local Best Buy to walk in a buy a TV. You can't. Their stores are closed to instore traffic. So why should Walmart or Target be treated differently? Because they sell food or have a pharmacy?

Internal investigation usually leads to the police officer being suspended with pay until the investigation is "over."

If you were unfortunate and got COVID-19, would you take Hydroxychloroquine?

Give a "Thanks" if you would.
